Years ago, we did a Christmas Boat Parade in Nashville and decided to dock at Riverfront Park overnight and come back thru Old Hickory Locks the next day Fortunately- we were in a new 44’ Tolly CMY. Dual HVACs kept the salon and bunks toasty. Just had to be careful with the sleet and freezing rain. 🥶🥶

Loved seeing the snow in my beloved Georgia. So sweet of you to share your child's first snow experience with all of us. Such a cutepie! Lifetime memories made. I had a sailboat slipped on Lanier ( in the 1980s ) at Aqualand on a power dock. Fun weekend and loved staying on-board. We currently divide our time between Georgia, Alabama and Florida enjoying Fishing, Kayaking, Vespa scootering and staying in our Motorcoach. Enjoy those times with your family. We're in our 70s years old and not about to stop yet! Be safe, be well, be happy always.

What a wonderful life y’all are living! We hope our adventures continue on like you guys are doing. Hopefully Clare will still want to join us sometimes then, too 😃. So awesome you used to have a sailboat at Aqualand. That marina seems really nice. Lots of sailboats around that area, too. One of our good friends loves to rent sailboats out of Holiday. Maybe we’ll get into that one day. Do y’all ever get the chance to sail now? Thank you for your kind words about our video and our daughter. This really was a special experience for us!
@pamelaklemp56152 жыл бұрын
@@DeepHouseboatLife We don't sailboat any more. It take a lot of core body strength, balance, leverage and quickness to really be safe while sailing, especially when underway running 3-5 sails. Those pop-up storms can come in so quickly and pack a huge force on your sails. Some friends of ours had to scurry to physically slice holes in their sails rather than attempt to get them down quickly enough! Doing that TURNED OUT WELL FOR THEM (thank goodness) but like any sport there comes a time to wisely Let Go and enjoy the memories of it. We still do several kinds of boating, just not sailboating. I hope you and your family continue to enjoy your adventures for decades to come. BE WELL, BE SAFE, BE HAPPY 😊 SHALOM! (PEACE AND FREEDOM)

@@pamelaklemp5615 wow! Those pop up storms sound like a wild ride. We enjoy going on sailing trips, but have never learned to sail ourselves. Definitely agree that it would be quite physically demanding. We stepped away from long course triathlon racing when we decided to start a family. So true about knowing when to walk away, like all great sports. Glad you get to still enjoy the water through life’s different seasons 😃

Friendly suggestion from a houseboater on lake Cumberland. Tighten ropes so there’s not so much movement of the boat. I pull ropes as tight as I can get them. The constant yanking of the ropes risks them breaking. Also replace ropes with new at least every 2 years. Also noticed cleats with no ropes tied to them. More ropes the better!! We are live aboards on our 20x100 fantasy houseboat and have weathered many snow storms. We really enjoy it!! I do NOT enjoy the wind however! Super good video! Unfortunately, we are land locked in Lake Lanier because of Buford Dam. The Chattahoochee and Chestatee Rivers both flow to create Lake Lanier, with the help of the dam. Wish we could travel outside of the lake down a river on our houseboat. That would be a ton of fun.

What breed is your dog? Shes beautiful! I’m looking to introduce a new puppy to my pack before my oldest girl is gone. Great video, love it😊
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Nick! Thanks for watching, and happy to hear you loved the video 😊. Dory is a Welsh Springer Spaniel, and she is the BEST. They are very much pack dogs and love to be with their "people." We socialized Dory early in her life, so she enjoys going to doggie daycare and hanging with other people/dogs. Her preference is to be with us, though. Think they are great dogs for folks who enjoy spending lots of time with pets. Welsh Springer Spaniels can be hard to find in the US, and are more popular in the UK. We found Dory from a breeder in Washington state. There are a few Facebook pages dedicated to the breed where you can try to find a breeder. That's the way we did it. If we ever get another dog, it will be another Welshie 😀

Is taping up the vents safe? They're there for a reason and presumably that's carbon monoxide build up and overheating. I am really not sure if I would trust my babies safety to blocked ventilation. Oh but your daughter is so adorable and Dory is gorgeous, it looks like a lovely boat!
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
That's a really great question - our exhaust from the generator actually funnels out through pipes at the top of our houseboat, so it still has a way to escape with the vents taped. Not all houseboats have those pipes, so taping the vents would be even more of a safety issue in those boats. Certainly wouldn't want to do that very often, in either scenario. And thank you for your kind words! We are lucky to have all 3, Dory, Clare, and the houseboat :)

If you are occupying the boat, I would think you should still have some ventilation in engine compartment.
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct, there is still a small amount of ventilation through the blower exhaust vent. So the engine compartment isn’t completely sealed. Our main goal is to keep cold air from rushing in and negate what the bilge heater is doing to keep the engine compartment warm, but we don’t completely seal off the engine compartment.

How is that off grid? I assume the big shore power cord is running your lights heat and oven.
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
That’s all generator power 👍🏼. We didn’t have shore power for about a day. Though, we now have lithium ion batteries that power most of our lights, fans, and outlets

Places that don't get much snow don't have the same infrastructure and utilities available for dealing with anowstorms.Also, houseboats can easily overturn even with just a few inches of snow so it's best to be there to clear the snow off the roof or canopies.

Oh wow, a whole 6inches……6 inches is a Nusance storm…. In the future grocery run: eggs, milk, bread, tomato sauce, spaghetti, cheese, snacks, instant hot chocolate, coffee tea and yes, the all important toilet paper. If you can pick up a shovel and rock salt, do so. Charge all your devices and if you have a portable charging station, more the better, just in case you lose power. Good Luck and have fun!

How do you get mail or register anything if you live on a boat?
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
Hey Rich! That's a great question - we actually don't live on our houseboat full-time, so we have things delivered to our home in Athens, GA. Though, we have had some packages delivered to our marina office before in the past. For full-time folks, this likely varies based on marina. Imagine many have a PO Box address where their mail can be delivered...because we have never seen any mailboxes at our marina

I keep threatening t put my boat in at Lanier. I'm on the Allatoona.
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
Lake Allatoona is a pretty lake! Hear there is also a houseboat community there, too. We decided on Lanier because the water level seems to fluctuate less than Allatoona. Both great lakes 👍🏼
@AdventureDude20002 жыл бұрын
@@DeepHouseboatLife, I just have an old pontoon. Don't get to hang out with the houseboat crowd too much. I love the toona because most of the north shore is unpopulated game land. Lots of private little coves after the tubers and wake boarders go in for the night. However, I've got a few friends that are on Lanier. At least one has a house boat so I keep threatening her that I'll drop #DúBôt in the drink by hers dock sometime... lol
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
@@AdventureDude2000 that's awesome you have a pontoon! You could go anywhere, really. And Lake Lanier isn't too far away from Allatoona. We actually used to go swim there a lot when we were practicing for the open water swim portions of those long distance triathlons we used to do. Bet you've seen those groups out there before while on your pontoon, too. You've gotta come to Lanier sometime, especially if your friend has a houseboat. It's a ton of fun

Don't know how you all in the midwest do it during the winter! Jessie lived in Chicago for one year after college and quickly realized she didn't own real winter clothes 😳 . It's so scary driving on snow in the south because nobody has the right equipment on their cars, coupled with even less experience. Hopefully it won't snow too much on y'all this winter.

I know this was filmed long ago, but make sure your cutie isn’t throwing grapes to pets! They can be sooo toxic. Our adopted dog was obsessed with grapes (he could tell when we were washing them!) and we didn’t realize they are usually toxic- he just happened to not be affected by them! I looked it up one day and was horrified! Now I’m super careful cause you just never know!
@DeepHouseboatLife2 жыл бұрын
We absolutely appreciate the heads up on this, Alicia! Someone else actually told us a few months about grapes being bad for dogs, after watching this video - we had no clue. We've been very careful since then with Dory and grapes. Definitely rather be safe than sorry with our sweet Dory girl

Are you guys aware that a dog can die suddenly by ingesting just 1 grape. It’s something we were not aware of until our son became a veterinarian. Hope this gets to the family from Atlanta

We did not know that, and are so glad that you told us! We usually don't give Dory people food because she has issues with her pancreas, but it has been harder with our daughter throwing stuff from her high chair. We'll make sure to be extra mindful of this now. Thanks again for this tip - we love Dory so much

Maybe it was covered elsewhere but I always tie the front of the boat. I had my first hb (34 ft.) Break loose during a storm and was held 50ft out by the ropes. Had to pull back to shore by hand. Your boats too big for that. I'm also paranoid about children being in life jackets. When the "unimaginable" happens such as fire or collision the child has another level of safety. Enjoy the water.
@DeepHouseboatLife Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Don - these are great tips. Wow, that must have been an eerie feeling hanging out 50ft on your houseboat. And pulling yourself back by hand 👏🏼. We tie ours at both cleats located on the front corners of the bow. Hopefully that’s plenty for the front. We are so lucky that Clare loves wearing her life jackets (she has two) and her puddle jumper. Not all kids do, unfortunately. We started introducing it to her when she was very, very young so we would have fewer issues at the age she is now (very opinionated!). Totally agree with your sentiment on kids wearing life jackets! Thank you for watching our video 🙏🏼
