If you print quite a bit but may have lapses of weeks in between printing, stay away from the tank printers. You will constantly be buying his cleaning kit because the ink dries up way too often. I’m going to a laser printer. With decent color laser jets now down under $500, it’s a no brainer for my situation. I regret buying the Eco Tank and figured I’d share my experience in case others have similar printing habits.

I have an Eco-tank and a Mega-tank printer, the Eco-tank doesn't print borderless photos, the Mega-tank does...but yes, if you don't print often avoid them as well as avoid the cartridge type printers....the ink cartridges are ridiculously expensive....if you must buy a cartridge type printer buy one with individual ink cartridges...black, magenta, cyan, and yellow cartridges, DO NOT buy those tri-color cartridge printers, most times you run out of one color before the others and you are forced to buy a cartridge because the printer won't print without all the colors....The tank type printers are great if you print often and print a lot, but just like cartridge printers the heads get clocked if you let the printer sit for days on end....even if you print a test page every few days it'll keep the heads clear, but if not you'll quickly hate the thing as you start going through ink trying to clean the printheads. A laserjet printer is great for the seldom user.

I was looking for a review which talked about the proprietary nature of the ink cartridges...HP currently is requiring only HP print cartridges (which are more expensive ) and will disable the print function if you try to use it. The software has an option to turn it off but that no longer appears to work....as in my current HP printer which won't recognize anything but HP cartridges.

Thanks for the video. I have an HP m283 laser printer. It is a super good quality printer but it will not go to a thrift store now. I tried after market ink cartridges and have had problems with them. Tried two different brands of cartridges, either would work for very long. To buy a 4 pack of new HP cartridges costs about $464. The printer new from Costco was only $500. HP's policy and the chips that they use in their products to prevent you from using third party affordable ink is the reason there are so many negative comments about HP. I hope this helps someone looking for HP, they can be great if you do not mind spending the high cost for their replacment ink. I am now looking at Canon Mega Tank or Epson Eco Tank printers.

Trying to decide between the Canon G7020 for $194 and the Brother INKvestment MFC-J4335DW for $179.99. My wife is a teacher and prints a fairly decent amount. She would probably print less during the summer. The Brother seems to have faster printing speeds and still seems to get good print amounts per cartridge while the Canon is a Tank Printer. Both are compatible with Apple AirPrint. Want it to print mostly documents and some photos at fairly decent speeds while keeping costs down. Any help between the two?

The lower the price, the higher chance it will break or the liquid inks are expensive and rather small. Those cheap printers typically have replacement ink cartridges that cost more than the printer did...just a throw away printer at that point, who would spend $100 in ink for a $50 printer....and you are right the cartridges are usually small, and not even close to full, even the so called XL cartridges are maybe 1/2 to 3/4 full if you are lucky....I would buy a tank style printer before wasting money on a cartridge based printer....now, if you can find a cartridge based printer that uses individual ink cartridges its not nearly as bad because you simply replace whatever color is empty, but those printers that have a black cartridge and the colors are in 1 cartridge (tri-color) those things are a huge waste of money as one color runs out and typically the printer won't print until you replace it, and you throw away 2 colors of ink in the process. The downfall to inkjet printers as a whole whether cartridge or tank based, is the print heads clock up if you don't use the printer often, say every few days....a laserjet printer solves that issue, but there are a lot more consumable parts in a laser printer that need attention/replacement....also, toner cartridges are quite expensive, especially if you get a color laserjet where now you are buying 4 toner cartridges which oftentimes are over $100 each....on top of that you have the drum, fuser, etc. that will require periodic replacement and those parts are not cheap at all, might as well buy a new printer when its time to replace those parts.

I have the Epson Eco-tank ET-4550, and aside from the tanks being on the side, they're pretty easy to see...the only complaint I have is the terrible display which you need a flashlight to read most of the time, for the price I expected a much better printer overall...it don't even print borderless photos....the paper tray always gets stuck while trying to push it back in after loading paper, the auto document feeder no longer works on it, and it has ok image quality in general printouts....really expensive printer for its very lackluster operation, and the duplex feature prints the back side upside down from the front side, so you flip the page over and then have to turn it around no matter what settings you pick it always prints that way in duplex mode...I now have a Canon Mega-Tank Printer as well which works very well, prints borderless photos, duplex function works as designed, it also has dual paper trays, so I keep the front tray loaded with regular paper, and the rear tray loaded with photo paper, you tell the printer in the setup menu what paper is in each tray, and the printer software on the computer the same settings and it figures it out from there. Borderless photos come out great, and its pretty quick overall. The ink chambers on it are right on the front, and very easy to see the ink levels...I'd recommend a Canon Mega-Tank over the Epson Eco-Tank printers, at least with my experience, the Canon tends to print things more closely to what you see on your monitor the Epson seems to darken images for some reason, no matter what the settings are set to....and the Epson doesn't do photo prints in a borderless setting anyways, but in general printing it doesn't do so well with photos involved.

I have an old HP 4700 Color LaserJet Printer that does everything I need. It prints letter and legal size paper from 20# to heavy card stock. It prints double sided and I use it for printing books with color photos. I am now having problems with it, as it has around 500k copies on it and I need to get another printer. What do you suggest that I can use to print books with quality color photos, as well as heavy card stock?
@BestPrinters8 ай бұрын
The M283 is a great option. It should hold up like your older HP LaserJet pretty much all of the LaserJet printers you can use aftermarket toner on. You'll save so much by going that route.
@wildbill23c2 ай бұрын
I have a Canon Mega-Tank printer that does well for everything it seems, and it has dual paper trays, front I just keep regular paper in, and the rear is loaded with photo paper....so find a printer with dual paper trays, it makes printing on different paper a breeze as you don't have to swap the paper out, then try and remember to put the other paper back and change the settings every time. That heavy printing of books a tank style printer would be a great upgrade...otherwise a laser printer would be another option, but they do require some additional maintenance over time as not only do you have toner cartridges that have to be replaced, the drum units, fusers, etc. all require periodic replacements and are often expensive, if you can even get the parts....toner cartridges are usually quite expensive too and since you are printing books with photos you'd need/want a color laserjet which is more expensive and now you'd be buying 4 toner cartridges which are usually $100 or more. The plus side to laser printer is you can leave it sitting for weeks or months and not have to worry about clogged print heads. Laser printers are around the $200 and up range, lowest cost being your basic black/white (monochrome) style....and you are going to be in the $400 and up range to get into a color one.

My Color Laser Printer is a Brother MFC, does great, only downside is toner cartridges, drums, fusers, etc. are expensive to replace in a laser printer, and not something you have to do in an inkjet printer....but I like the laser printers because you can leave them set unused for months and not have to deal with clogged printheads LOL. The newer laser printers do a better job with photos too, not the best option, but can do pretty decent if needed. My Epson Eco-Tank Printer was one of the first ones they made, so it doesn't have borderless photo capability, but my Canon Mega-Tank printer does, and it does a great job...hundreds of photos printed and just had to fill the ink tanks at the end of last month and I've had the printer for about a year. Definitely would go with a tank style printer over the cartridge ones in terms of ink costs the tank printers are a lot cheaper to operate over time than buying ink cartridges....the ink bottles are quite a bit cheaper, and you can glance at the printer and know how much ink is in it, where you can't do that with cartridges.

I once had a Canon Pixma, rarely used it for anything other than black and white copies, yet I was frequently replacing the color cartridges just because of constant head cleaning. And it would've been even more expensive if I had been making color copies. A fundamental design flaw, in my opinion.

I can't even print normal sized photos bc they made the photo tray 10cm x 15cm, which is NOT 4" x 6" (it's 3.93" x 5.91"). So I either have to cut slivers off of both top and side of every photo I want to print, or jam it in there and try it a bunch of times to get it to finally be able to grab and pull it out. But even then, the print quality sucks. It's absolutely ridiculous that they actually built and still sold a product when they don't know how to convert cm to inches. It also refuses to listen if I try to change the size of something and tell it to print the photo tray. Every setting will say photo tray, but it'll print from the letter tray anyway. And this isn't even taking into account how proprietary their systems are, and how they will essentially brick your printer if you don't use their brand of ink. Also for OP, you could make your videos a lot more concise if you didn't have multiple intros, including telling us what's coming up in multiple sections. Just a short intro at the beginning briefly saying what you're going to cover, and then just tell the info. I had to keep skipping forward (plus all the damn ads)
