Thanks for this great info. I was follow your tip about not to buy the SIM at airport. Asked a guy of a stand coffe and he sent me to a store called Thinh Electronics. There I bought a Viettel SIM + 4gb/day for 30 day for 200k and if you want 30 days more it cost 120k. I do not know if is expensive, but it works good for me.

That's a good amount of data. I use a lot of data also, but only got the 2 GB a day plan and paid 100,000 vnd for 30 days. That plan you got would of been probably over 300,000 vnd at airport. So you definitely saved money.

@@J.PaulLucas some people say viettel. But I prefer to use vinaphone. But I think you can't go wrong with either one of them.

I just got mine from a local shop and then realized that you can actually buy those online. 30k for the sim + 60k/mo for 4gb a day. The carrier name is itel.

Yes it sucks that you basically learned after you mess up the first time haha. How I would do it is to wait to get into town to buy the sim card at a local shop, the issue with that is that I need to place an order for grab and the airport wifi doesn't work outside the airport area. So what I usually end up doing is overpaying for the original sim card and then just reloading it every month after at a local shop (100,000 vnd for like 60 GB)

Wow, thank you for this comment! I'm using the website right now to order one. Did you ever use it yourself? They are asking for a number to send the esim to, but not allowing International numbers, strange. Great alternative option though, will figure this out!

@@leeshalusalongrowth sorry I'm not fancy with the esims yet but got mine at a local shop. Rules here change all the time so I'm not surprised it's asking for weird stuff. My advice is look for phone repair shops, they sell simcards there. Esims...no idea sorry 🤷🏾‍♂️

So let me explain a little more you could get a SIM card right there at the airport which will cost you more than buying a SIM card in town but not crazy expensive. Or you could try to use the airport Wi-Fi order your grab and hope that the Wi-Fi will work in the parking lot where you pick up the grab. But it's not that big of an issue at all

I don't get it. You bought the recharge cards but didn't buy an actual SIM. But you seemed to be referring to the scratch/recharge cards as SIMs. Did you just keep the SIM that you got at the airport?

Yes sorry for the confusion. I got the simcard ( $12 for simcard) from the airport when I first arrived and then just got thr recharge cards (about $5 for a monthly package) each month I stayed here.

I don't have to much issues with understanding people here. If I can't understand them or they don't understand me I just use Google translate or I point of show them pictures. Usually works out so no issue
