Shopping for a used tri-toon now. We find that even boats 2 or 3 years old have trashed interiors. Sun faded vinyl, failed stitching, mold stains that won't clean up, faded plastics, etc. and they want high retail plus for the boat. Can't believe the number of people who neglect these boats. It's not difficult to keep it nice. We sold a 4 year old twin toon and the interior still looked like new because I kept it covered and treated. I also pulled the covers off and wiped it all down after a rain and I never shrink wrapped the boat. We stored inside for the winter. Shrink wrapping traps moisture and causes mold to grow and eat into the vinyl.

I always like to take the boat out and check the wake. It should be fairly even especially with the trim set. I had one pontoon that favored the starboard side and it wasn’t due to engine torque. We found the back toon section was full of water. It was due to a plug missing so we drained almost a 100 gallons out. At 8 pounds a gallon that was nearly 800 pounds. This was a 22 footer the customer was complaining that huge engine wasn’t performing properly. After we removed the water and ultimately rather weight it ran as it did before.

Yes, I understand all this however I am trying to narrow down to the length and diameter of toons that I should be searching for. I am trying to find someone that has factual data based on math that can tell me at what percentage of the total maximum weight capacity does the performance really suffer. I am looking at buying used as well as possibly ordering one custom built. I have owned quite a few boats that were impulsive purchases and I have time to think this time before I buy. I hope all this makes sense. 1 cubic foot of air space will keep 62# afloat but 62.5# will sink it. What percentage of that 62.4# per cubic foot of air space can I have in total boat weight before my performance suffers? Can anyone answer this? Has anybody performed any tests like this? I am very curious of the answers that I will get other than the folks that say I am overthinking it because I overthink everything. 😂 😂

Go tri toon, my first pontoon was not for large people. My girlfriend's friends were very heavy and would not listen about distributing the weight. We stuffed a wave really hard, completely soaked I didn't take no for an answer anymore, mad they all went to the back.....NO! Some in the middle some in the back, I dont care your alone, there's 4 people on one side to balance YOU, dont get mad at me it takes 4 people. She didn't go out w us anymore awwww.

Yeah just bounce up n down on the floor lol and if you go thru it, eh ya might only need a few stitches but hey at least you'll now that boat isnt a good deal :D I would walk slowly with caution whereby testing for softness in the plywood before bouncing on it, and better yet first have the seller walk on it before taking any risks ourselves ;o)

@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon Thanks for the polite reply :o) So you assume people would use common sense? ....lol huh what.. hey now, this is youtube not to mention earth and there's not many left out there who use common sense anymore. If they had common sense to know not to bounce on plywood to test it, also means they would probably have common sense for how to test it without someone telling how to do it ....but yeah just to make sure, not trying to be a jerk or start an argument with you. You definitely seem pretty cool :o)

Thanks for all the helpful knowledge, it really helps! When you are talking about inspecting the boat you talk about a part that is now made of plastic that if a heavy person uses may crack. Could you please describe this issue a bit more? Thank you!

Sorry man, but 'pontoon' is the generic name of the boat and has nothing to do with the number of tubes (I've heard them called 'floats', but not sure if that's an official term). Tritoon is a made up name to differentiate the type, nothing else.

weight capacity I noticed capacity of a 22 foot pontoon 10 person is only 1200 pounds people and gear I don’t know lotta people that only weighed 120 lbs so realistically speaking a six person pontoon?

@calebj06824 жыл бұрын
Sun tracker did it on their regency models. I just sold one. The all aluminum was a huge plus for me when buying an older boat (it was a 2000 model)
@calebj06824 жыл бұрын
Boat Buyer's Secret Weapon the boat still had the original Capet in it from 2000. Yes, 20 year old carpet and vinyl seats in that boat the they both looked BRAND NEW! Everything on it was still is A+ shape, and I credit a lot of that to the materials used on the regency models, including the lack of wood!!! If I can find a newer regency I will gladly purchase it!

Watched the whole video and thought "where is the part that the title says how to buy a used or new pontoon or tritoon at the best price". This is clickbait. You pointed out some good points in this vid but it wasn't nothing anyone with common sense didn't already know. The part you use in the title is misleading cause you want people to go to your site and buy that "secret weapon". Just another fraud.
