The thing I love the most about this channel is that Audrey never, and I say NEVER, pressures us to fill up our wardrobes immediately and instead encourages us to look things up first, be critical, and assess if we truly gravitate to certain things. Almost every influencer this time urge us to make purchases here and there every now and then. Most of the time, it makes us forget to find our own aesthetic and just fit in the boxes they made. I'm a young dude and this mature lady is my favorite content creator 🥺💯✨

Same!! I find the male side of style youtube is very lacking in this type of content. I’m not a fan of the yelling at the camera, strict rules, the constant ads and the fundamental attitude of guilting the audience and the intention of dressing better just being about attracting women. I want to learn how to dress well - for me, find my own style and how to care for my things. I like Audrey as she is calm, well informed and well spoken. She never says “you must, you cant, never do this, and you HAVE to”, she always goes in the “you could, consider trying, perhaps this & i like to” direction. The first is so aggressive and restrictive, and the last is more approachable and flexible. It doesn’t feel like shes trying to sell me something, and i love that she encourages slow fashion and intentional closet pieces.

Frye Leather boots -look for vintage or double-check where they are made for modern styles. Beek, Lane. Smaller makers are available if you hunt around online. Good leather is often a no-name or little-known-name. Spain, Portugal, Italy, Mexico are excellent sources. Countries who love horses and horsemanship make fantastic leather to last generations. A very informative post, Audrey. Great that you featured Crockett and Jones who really do make classic shoes and boots using top quality materials and traditional methods. I come from a Northamptonshire (England) shoe making family and am related to the Jones family. Two points I would like to add to maintain the longevity of your boots are to insert shoes trees after wear and to polish regularly. Wearing classic classy shoes/boots always always makes me feel chic, no matter how casual the outfit. You are spot on!

Just some extra info here :). You can actually repair a glued sole by sanding it off and glueing another one on top of the old sole. Also the term full grain leather can be abussed a bit as its not a protected term. If you really wanna know if its a good leather you can look for a well known tannery or the thickness and finish of the leather. :)

Audrey, thank you for a very comprehensive review of boots! Every single individual who sells footwear should watch it! I also love boots and agree that it is worth to really take the time and ensure one is getting the quality and value to suit the purpose. By the way I invested in my first over the knee boots last year, the Stuart Weitzman low heel ones that you showed and I absolutely love them! In addition I have a couple of stylish all leather shoes with a leather sole, that were made in Italy from over 20 years ago that I have had re-soled a couple times and they look and feel brand new. They are so comfortable! Similarly, I do social ballroom and Latin dancing and I can tell you a good fitting leather shoe will not hurt me at all when I am dancing all night. Stay safe! 🇨🇦

Great subject, I wear Chelsea boots all the time, they are my favourite. The article on your blog is so well documented I will definitely check out a few of those brands ! The ones I wear are from Orban's, a french brand with a fabric in spain, probably the cheapest Goodyear welting on the market at the moment, maybe due to the genuine leather (it's still good but not great), and the fact that the shop is tiny and looks more like a storage room (wich is actually cool especially when you're poor, shy and just starting in the style/sartorial path, plus they are so nice and down to earth). I asked my cobbler to put rubber soles and metal toe taps and I'm sure that with good care they are going to last very long now ! 😊

I am not a boot person because I like to slip in and out of footwear, not bending over or kneeling down to get shoes on and off. Also, where I live there’s no 4 season or rainy season, I wear Converse or Simple low profile sneakers all year round. However, I do love lace up wingtip brogue shoes and monk strap Oxford. I love boots but I have a really hard time finding any that I can wear. I have super high arches. I’m pretty much confined to lace up boots but they have to have a wide tongue or there’s a gap. Feels like I’m hunting for the holy grail sometimes! On the other hand I have a pair of wingtip ankle boots that is, no joke, thirty years old. Quality pays for itself in longevity.

Christina Aubin I have the same problem. Most boots don’t seem to accommodate high arches, so now I never buy boots without trying them on first. Every once in a while I’ll find one that fits just right and without laces!

I wear vintage Frye harness boots. I have never bought a new pair. Buy them on eBay mostly. I lucked out finding that boot that I can wear for tens hours. Wide foot high arch. I always feel well supported and somewhat edgy.

I had a brown pair of ankle boots I just adored, looked great, lasted 10+ years and so comfy you forget you were wearing them... They did die last winter and I'm still trying to find something decent to buy, and cozy season is really just around the corner!

I enjoyed your video and also referred to the blog where I read each boot profile even though I do not intend to purchase leather. As always you are just as elegant in print as you are in video. I would assume that we can apply much of the information to construction and style when buying vegan. Would you consider doing a video for vegan accessories and shoe/boot products?

Alancy Rebello I can highly recommend the Penelope Chilvers Chelsea boots, the best purchase I ever made! I’m considering getting the fleece lined Oscar Chelseas that Audrey highlights. They are pricey but I see it as an investment and it works out cheaper than spending £100 every year or two.

Another info-packed video 👏🏽 Audrey, Im curious if you wear perfume and if you’ve found a signature scent. If yes, do you have a specific approach or tips on choosing perfume? A video on that would be so interesting, as I’m trying to come across a perfume that would just be a love at first sniff :)

May i make a suggestion? A great place to search for leather ankle boots are at a tack shop. The sole is sturdy, they are leather but you can find faux leather. Most are lace up. You can find pull ons, and ones that zip up the front. I didnt care for the zips. Caused problems for me when I was riding. When I had my foot in the stirrup with heels down it caused the zip to slip. We call them paddock boots. They are comfy and hard wearing. Good luck!

Excellent content. So well researched and presented. A question please. Of the suggested boots, I don't see any side zippers, only pull on boots. Is there a reason for this? I like the ease of a zipper. Any links for zippered boots? Thanks as always for your grace and style

How about if stores had a digital measuring system for feet, like the box some use when selling running shoes? One that took all foot measurents, and used ultrasound to measure hard and soft parts, and with all weight on each foot? Then all shoes and boots in all models and sizes were in a nice big data base of measurements and "give" and you got a recommendation, "this shoe is most likely to fit you well, and these three come next." Some very good sales people have a talent for this, but it is rare.

If you’re looking for a resoleable boot the Thursday Chelsea’s are unfortunately cemented. Meermin has a beautiful Goodyear welted Chelsea for 230 usd, which is a great price for a Goodyear welted boot. A company called John Doe Shoes also does Goodyear welted women’s Chelsea’s which come out to 156-181 usd depending on the leather you choose.
