Thanks so much for your expertise. A friend of ours just gave me a Cajon that he made, so I am anxious to learn how to play it. Loved your grooves. And I was surprised to see just how much sounds comes out of these little boxes.

Thanks for the great video, Sammy! Been playing music for over 25 years, mostly vocals, guitar and harmonica - but my drummers have always commented about how I've had decent rhythm (banging on tables, edge of guitar, etc.), and guitar players commented about how I keep good timing. Getting into more elaborate acoustic setup lately with looping, more high-end vocal processing/harmonizing pedals - and I decided I also wanted to add a bit more percussion on some songs. This will be my first Cajon purchase - and your video was VERY helpful! I followed your (bare)foot steps to my local Guitar Center and jammed on a bunch of Cajons - and I absolutely loved the same little Meinl box but, like you, it felt a bit small for me (5'8") - especially if I consider using the Cajon as a "stool" while playing guitar! I found the Pearl Big Boom hiding in the acoustic guitar room and I absolutely loved the big bass sound, nice crisp snare - and the clear differentiation between bass/snare. My only concern is with the larger size - and finding a bag that big boy would fit into. I also found a used Meinl Headliner HCAJ1NT at my local Music Go Round for $65 (normally $100-$110) and it sounds decent but has a lot of buzz - and attempting to tune the snare strings in-store wasn't having any effect. The tuning mechanism inside looked like it was also situated in a piece of wood trim that showed signs of cracking. In any event, thanks again for the great video! It really helped me to know what to look for (construction, feel, handle, feet) and I gained a better appreciation of how those things you were looking for would impact quality, feel and sound! I'm not a drummer ... but if I can figure out how to harness even 20% of the your talent and add that to 10-15 acoustic songs in a set, I'd be thrilled. Cheers!

Thanks. I’ve wanted to learn to play some sort of percussion instrument. A big drum set is too expensive and takes up too much space. I saw someone play a cajon a few years ago and was amazed at the different sounds that came out of this plain looking box she was sitting on. Very helpful demo that shows how the different features sound.

I really liked the sound of the Meinl Artisan Edition Tango because the bass sounded much fuller but maybe it was just because you played it in a different section of the store, so acoustics might have to do with that.

I make cajon drums in my garage. I make all sizes. The travel size are the most popular and I used to make the large ones with an adjustable snare but now I only do fixed because everyone tells me they never ever turn off the snare so why bother . I was trying to sale them but the cost of wood and everything all added up I found that I can’t compete with the music stores or even direst from the maker. I can no longer produce cajon drums and break even or under. People don’t see and understand the thought process and knowledge that goes into a cajon and tell me I’m charging too much. So, I gave all but 2 cajons away free. 😂It felt good and I may do it again.

Thanks for taking the time out to review so many. I got a chance to play someone's homemade Peruvian style cajon and am considering purchasing one of my own since I don't have the tools to make one. I love to play other hand percussion instruments so I might consider the bongo style which also might be nice in my classroom. When you have liked a cajon but not so much because of the feet why not just change out the feet?
@BarefootGroove5 жыл бұрын
Donna Donat thanks for taking the time to watch!! The purpose of this video was simply to evaluate “mass-produced” canons at a local retailer. Of course modifications can be made to fit the personal preferences of the individual player. Along with more reviews, I’ll put together a video on some of the more common modifications and review some other boxes in the future! 😍👣🎶💚

Excellent video.Only one of its kind that was worth watching,you’d assume there’d be more people reviewing cajons since it’s such a versatile instrument but there aren’t. Side note:I wish there were more instruments using different woods as the faceplate I really want to see what that does to the sound. Also every time you said “this one has great feet” I was thinking ‘so do you Sam so do you’ 😂
