In this video I tell about some of the ways we get fooled when we buy Lifepo4 cells and how to reduce the risk. The short answer is to communicate directly with Jenny Wu at her gmail address. She will help you with your purchase from her company Docan Power. Her Address is Jennywu896@gmail.com . I also give an update about what I've been doing and what is coming up.

Thank you Ray. Permanent expansion is 100% avoidable. Cells should only be taken out of a fixture when empty to avoid permanent expansion. I don't use Jenny for my business but I use someone else some people claim (falsely) is unreliable. It's good to see you have found someone great, just like I have to do business with. I too always get flat, new cells, that always meet specifications when tested at the 0.5 c in the spec sheets. You seem to have a good heart, I appreciate that, keep up the good work.

Over the last 18 months or so I've bought 64 cells, 280kn EVE cells from Docan Tech in 4 transactions of 16 each. Every time I got exactly what I was promised, exactly when it was promised, at a fair price. I have a 64 kWh battery system now running my place and they've all been 100 percent reliable and done a great job for me. Just another vote for Docan from a very happy customer.

Hi Ray, I can second everything you say about Jenny, I contacted her about september last year about pricing me 16x 280ah cells, she came back to me straight away witha price, this was above my budget, she offered me 230ah cells at $80 each plus shipping, she sent me an alibaba invoice, I paid and cells took around 6 weeks to the UK, I built my battery in the style you do yours and have been cycling them every day, not one problem as yet, I felt dealing with Jenny was easy with no messing,it just works as it should, thanks for your efforts, all the best Dean in the UK

As always, thank you for your tips, Ray. And for finding and sharing with us an honest seller. P.S. Not only your videos change my smartphone's display colors, and are only available in 60FPS, it's buggy in some instances, etc, but now I also notice that the volume is kind of really low. On maximum volume it sounds like medium volume in any other video or media that I watch on my smartphone. So I'm now even more curious what's up with it, if it's the camera you use, or if it's a KZbin setting that's accidentally turned on or what. You might want to look into it, because maybe it also affects what age groups your videos reach or something like that. If anybody has any idea about what it could be, let us know.

I have been working with Jenny for 2 years. Orderd more than 200 cells (280ah) I would say about 3% of the cells I ordered from her was not flat. They where swollen by about 1mm to each side. She told me that this is ok that they are not flat. All 100ah cells where always ok. It just happened with the big cells. Also shipping was laging sometimes. Once it was about 5 months. So I have gone through a lot of troubles with Jenny and Docan. I am still oredering all staff from Jenny. Also chargers, bms and other items. All is fine most of the fime but not 100% of time. So ve prepared that there can be problems too. At the same time can not recomend anyone else. Good to see you Ray. You look a but tired. Take arest, and we are waiting for new videos in the future.

I've seen a lot of people stating that the 300+Ah cells are much more prone to swelling. I'm wondering if this is just a simple reality of more mass being inside the aluminum case when combined with the natural swelling/shrinking of the charge/discharge. I guess I've never looked into what the thickness is of the walls on these prismatic cells...If the 280's and 300's are all the same then that would make sense.

The cells expand when charged. So you need to make sure you don't confine them too much. If you don't want pressure on the bus bars, use flexible ones or don't put the cells so close together or maybe us a bit of insulation between them than can compress with the expansion. The chemistry by which they expand has more force than your house sitting on top of the cells.
@AndyFletcherX31
@AndyFletcherX31 Жыл бұрын
The manufacturers advise that you compress them with 300Kgf to prevent expansion.
@RayBuildsCoolStuff
@RayBuildsCoolStuff Жыл бұрын
Expansion happens within the structure of the cell. The cell itself doesn't expand from that. The architecture of this type of cell is very stable. There are some good videos about this from the YT "the limiting factor". The expansion we are limiting is a different issue related to gasses in the cell and is something that should be managed. This has been misinterpreted by some people that sound like they know what they are talking about. Real life experience has proven otherwise repeatedly.
@1over137
@1over137 Жыл бұрын
@@RayBuildsCoolStuff I think there are multiple things and people are conflating them. The gas bubbles are valid, compressing the cells to help those to distribute upward I have seen reference to. When I mentioned in the video paying way too much for an honest interaction in the past, I was referring to Amy Wan. She sent great cells but the price per AH was way too high and her shipper let them sit in a warehouse in California for a month after they arrived in the states so it took too long to get them. I talked about this in another video called Reduce The Risk When Buying Lifepo4. I think she is a good person but not the best value.

There must be something different about dorcan. Of all cell i have purchased from dorcan (Daisy) have all been of great quality compared to other suppliers.. over 140 cells. The 32 i procured from other suppliers have been a disappointment.

I have mixed experience with Docan Power. Maybe you've been treated differently because of KZbin channel.

When I made my first purchase from Jenny, I didn’t have a KZbin channel and when I made my biggest purchase from her my channel was so new that most of my subscribers were family and friends. Maybe your mixed experience with Docan is because you didn’t buy from Jenny. I hear that more than a little. It’s the people that matter most.

I have mixed experience as well. I bought from Janny 16x EVE280k. Actually becouse recomendation on thih channel. Pre-buy servis is really good and Janny replays all the qestions fast . So all started well. Unfortunetly 5 of 16 cels I bought tested under capacity. And I tested with 20A only when acording to spec thos cels shuld test above 280Ah up to 0.5C (with EBC-20)! plus I repeted test of weekest cell. And 2 cels was only arund 274Ah. After long discusion and pushing ther and back, and claim on Alibaba I got refound of 48USD. So yes I have mixed feeling as well. Janny is ok'ish but Docan QA not nesseserry so good.

Great to have you back - your channel had a big influence on my own channel and of course on the way of testing my cells :). Let me share my experience with Docan Power delivering to Germany in Sept. 2022 after contacting Jenny via mail (the mail-address you named). Well - i don't agree, at least when it comes to Europe. Even the cells from Docan Power were ok (not flawless, but good grade B cells), buying cells for my small business made quickly clear, that i might run into some tax issues because there might be DDP fraud on most of the orders from chinese companies selling on Alibaba, because there were no customs documents that stated that custom fees including import VAT were paid (yes, with DDP there mostly are no proper customs documents, thats a flaw in that process) - but my pro forma invoice (wtf...) clearly showed an amount added for DDP costs - thus including VAT. But: the total amount was even lower than Germany import VAT for Germany. A very very difficult situation. So even though i assumed import VAT had been paid for - actually i had to pay VAT on top, because of the lack of proper customs documents (like i get from DHL when ordering products in the USA). So yes, cells were ok, contact with Jenny was excellent, tax situation was not (and Jenny was not able to solve that problem). So on my second order i bought cells from NKON (in the Netherlands) who seem to offer real Grade A cells and: for nearly the same price i buy cells from China including shipping and taxes. Well, from an EU country i can buy goods without import tax legally and i pay the VAT in Germany then (not totally accurate, but sth. like that). Costs are the same and if there is sth. wrong with the cells it's just a 3 hour drive by car to visit NKON ;). Oh, and it's not only a problem with Docan Power when it comes to import taxes. I had many sellers contacting me and i always asked questions on the taxes - nobody really wanted to handle or understand European tax laws. So for everyone: be carefull ordering via DDP, you might get into trouble with German customs (even up to 10 years after purchase) and of coure do ne buy cells from Aliexpress. In Europe cells are available at good prices from european sellers.

I thought they had a European warehouse.

@@RayBuildsCoolStuff Well, tricky - they do not sell according to European tax laws. The warehouse is located in Poland, but Jenny told me european VAT regulations do not apply 🤔. Not correct, but i already paid and from my experience with US orders i assumed i‘ll get proper tax documents. So if you need those: ask Jenny before ordering, maybe she will come up with a solution. Not easy because those deals are b2b - you do not act as a normal customer and should know what you are doing (well, in the end i was not 🤪). It‘s the way it is and i do not blame Jenny for that. The contact was great anyway, but due to the tax problems there will be no more business with chinese companies unless they offer a solution for this problem. Of course i could deal with customs myself - erm - nope ;). But i would be willing to pay for the service, unless the total price exceeds the price i pay in the Netherland. As i wrote: none of the chineese suppliers i contacted (even with european warehouses) offered proper custums documents. But there are Chinese cheap battery suppliers who do offer proper VAT invoices for Germany for normal customers, they also offer German addreses to ship back faulty batteries. So maybe it‘s just a matter of time.

Hey Ray, I appreciate the battery build videos. Thanks. I contacted Jenny Wu and she emailed right back and has been communicating well. My only question I have on this video, and I feel silly asking, even when you deal with Jenny Wu the invoice is from Alibaba correct? She sent me a link to Alibaba with invoice details. I am a little apprehensive about pushing the button and sending over $4000 to them.

Yes the company will contract the transaction through alibaba but I recommend not using them for the initial communication as sometimes other people can pretend to be Jenny and alibaba doesn’t work hard to prevent that.

Hello Ray, I ordered last year in June 48 cells ,280AH, from JennyWu and it was a pleasure to work with her. As you described, all the promises were kept, questions were answered correctly in time and the delivery time and custom cost and DDP were as predicted. All cells were flat and at the same state of charge. Now, almost a year later and a winter in which the cells were driving my heatpump for the house every day, the cells are still very uniform with a deviation of max 10mV. I highly can recommend the cells I received and JennyWu. HP 😊
