THANKYOU!! ❤ I just sprayed some PTFE lubricant on the nub that pokes out and cleaned around where the magnets are and it's working again! 😊 I also put something heavy on the lid to make sure the magnets read each other.

This video saved me work. I couldn’t figure out why I was getting the dl code. I was so close to ordering another switch until I watched this. The magnets in my lid lost their magnet force to the point where it wouldn’t tell the lock to trigger. So I just waved a strong magnet over the lid magnets and bam, now my washer works fine again
@hiphop360 Жыл бұрын
Wow.. so the magnets in your lid somehow got demagnetized? Are you saying that you were able to remagnetize them using a strong magnet? Or are you saying you now always have to use a strong magnet outside the lid in order to provide the magnetic field so your washer will work?
@Dayman7 Жыл бұрын
@@hiphop360 I was able to re magnetize them. I’m not sure what caused them to be demagnetized, maybe from years of use, but again thanks for the video

Thank you for this! I've been wondering how to do this on my LG washer for 7 years. Lol. I didn't even need to make a stopper either. I was able to hold my finger about 1/4" away from the hole and let the tab hit my finger, and then it retreated back into the locked position and stayed there.

The biggest thing I hate about the lid lock is I can't wash out my detergent cup while the machine is filling up with water. So you got all that left over soap oozing all over the inside of the cup.

This was the best explanation I found on the 2 stage locking mechanism. I have a Whirlpool Cabrio but the mechanics are the same. With that in mind once I used the magnet to see what was happening I was able to use a deck of cards to determine the correct space the lock should stop (I did not have a lego) and determined that I needed something 1/4 inch in depth taped to the flat area where the lock protrudes and that worked. I was able to tape a nut (as in nut and bolt) that was exactly the same as the cards as determined by a micrometer, actually .24 inches. Then I theorized that after 4 years the two plastic parts had started wearing each other out and tried two pieces of duct tape to the inside of the lock holder on the door and what do you know the machine is working perfectly and I can send back the new locking mechanism I had just purchased from Walmart. Thanks again for the great video definitely got the creative juices going.

Remove the switch using a phillips screwdriver and remove the plastic cover exposing the contacts and motor, but becareful not to bend the copper tabs inside. Then cut the wires to the magnetic sensor and connect them together (sensor will be removed and bypassed). Snap the cover back on and take 1.5" Velcro and wrap it around the plastic housing and tab, but make sure to leave a 5/16" gap in between the tab and velcro. Then take the sensor and tuck it down inside under the bleach tray corner area. Now the washer will run with the lid open. As for a permanent bypass (I doubt there is one unless you are a certified LG tech with a diagnostic tool). I believe the control board gets a signal from the tab position controlled by the small motor.

@@hiphop360 What if you just cut the white tab off?
@hiphop3602 жыл бұрын
@@peterpulpitpounder the 2nd stage would fail. The white tab must not be allowed to overextend. There must be something to resist the tab from sticking out to much. If you cut it off, there would be no part of it left to running into the bump stop. Therefore the 2nd stage would fail.

@@peterpulpitpounder I don't have a lot of working experience with other washer models to be able to recommend anything. I do recall seeing and interesting model that had a removable agitator. Whirlpool WTW8127LW / WTW8127LC .. seems like a very interesting concept. But have done absolutely no other research on it.. Reviewed dot com www.reviewed.com/laundry/content/whirlpool-wtw8127lc-top-load-washing-machine-review says "WTW8127LC is one of the best pole-agitator washers that we have ever lab tested, and it’s our highest-scoring pole agitator to date." When I bought my LG washer, at the time, the LG was rated number 1 on that site.. now the LG is #2 and the Whirlpool with the removable agitator is number 1... If I was in the market right now to buy a washer I would take a thorough look into the new whirlpool model.
