Sometimes- depending on the length and flexibility of your hoses, you can just plug the inlet into the outlet hose: I used a metal splicer to join the hoses, and put and put two little metal ring clamps to tighten the hoses into the splicer. Worked great.

Thank you so much! I didn't know what to do because my heater core was leaking onto my floor board and I saw how daunting of a task it is to change out the heater core, or at least after work living so far from a parts store and running out of daylight and time as I have to be at work so early in the morning. Then, I watched this video and said to myself I can go to the store and buy the hose,clamps and fittings described in the video. Maybe its just me but just watched this and Option 1 is primo. Option two provides no continuous circulation of the coolant. The fix is not to protect the heater core. It's to protect the cooling system of the engine - by isolating a heater core problem - and that requires a healthy dose of coolant circulation. Am I missing something ?
@evilbastard6587
@evilbastard6587 2 жыл бұрын
Affirmative. This little fix here is actually meant solely to protect the heater core. It will isolate the core from the cooling system when a stop leak chemical is applied to try to fix a failing head gasket. That chemical will react to the presence of heat and exhaust or air to form a solid to try to plug up a coolant leak. But there's the possibility it could also react in the heater core to plug that up, too.

By looping a connection you will have full circulation even when starting up your car on a cold morning. It will take longer for the engine to warm up because a substantial portion of cold antifreeze is bypassing the thermostat and going into the block. If it is just a temporary thing then just couple the two hoses together like with ribbed metal coupling from Tractor Supply. If permanent then I would cut off the hoses to a short length and install a metal plug into each.

A couple of reasons for bypassing. Number one is if you have a clogged or leaking heater core and can't get to replacing it right away. Number two is if you have blown head gasket and use a stop leak product. By passing the heater core allows for a greater antifreeze flow rate and less chance that it will clog you system. With bears true blue head gasket sealer (and others), you remove the bypass after yoy are finishing with using the sealer.
