I came to see what needed done and I'm now completely overwhelmed. My mechanic will be doing this. I've had several estimates from 1700 to 800 which included diff plug.

Most of this work is not needed. You only need to pull the 3 bolts holding the diff. It will drop down far enough for you to replace that single front diff bushing. Easy peasy. Have done several of these. About an hour or so including a bunch of breaks.

I’m lucky because mine doesn’t bang lol. The bushing has gone bad where I can feel it in the drivetrain, but not terribly. My mechanic quoted $1000 just in parts

Vaseline is propylene glycol based, that’s the last thing you want touching your rubber bushing(s). It will cause the rubber to swell which will cause it to tear.

@@christopherfike6597 you just have to knock the cv axle out of the hub using a punch and hammer. some times it can get stuck. spray it down with wd40 or pb blaster first

Unshure tbh. The ratios may be different. But the procedure to replace the bushing is the same

My car has been banging into gear for months. It’s been drivable so I’ve ignored it. However, the last few weeks it’s been getting worse and now doesn’t move. It was giving similar symptoms as a bad tranny and progressively getting less responsive and not shifting properly. Could changing the bushing help or is the bushing strictly to just stop the bang noise?

Sounds like your trans might be screwed now. No way of telling unless seeing it in person

@@Wrenchlife604 I started it cold today and was able to get it into reverse to back up a couple of feet, but then it stop moving. While still in gear I pressed on the gas and the rpms rose but the mph stayed at zero. Does this give you any clues as to wether it’s the tranny, rear differential, bushing, sensor, or anything else?

The rear differential has been leaking fluid and the bad bushing back there has been causing a clunk sound when shifting into gear. Before I consider replacing the trans I want to make sure the rear differential doesn’t also need replacement.

Ive heard of people dropping the diff slightly. I would rather pull it out completely. No reason to rush a job you want done properly
