Weighted moving average are just one way to create a forecast. Knowing how to calculate this has so many applications in so many different setting.
This video explains how to calculate a weighted average in general. It doesn't have to be specifically a 3-month moving average.

How to use this method in finding 12 months forecast? Like you have Jan-Dec. 2023, and you want to forecast Jan-Dec. 2024?

I have a question, weighted 3 Period Moving Average, with what do I need to divide, my textbook said 3 but my teacher said 6 - I dont understand why this could be, can you maybe help me to understand? He just used the same formula as you, however he divided by 6.

What is the basis of choosing this weight combination ? I meant why choose 3,7,10 ? Why not 4,6,10? Or 5,7,8?

No particular reason, I just used those numbers in the example. You can weigh your criteria however you think is best.

Is there a way to get a forecast for the empty months? Jan, Feb, March?

You just need the previous months data. So you would need Oct, Nov, Dec of the previous year to do a 3month weighted avg for Jan. Without the previous months data you cant really do a 3-month weighted average.
