Thank you very much for your compliments. I use a variety of different software including photoshop, D3, illustrator, HTML5, Final Cut, GarageBand and a few other products. Each video takes me a long time to create. My rule of thumb is each minute of video takes about 12 hours to create, so a 7 minute video takes me about 84 hours of development time.

@MR2SpyerJournal8 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Kabamba H0 is always that there is no difference between the variance of the groups. So if his test statistic fell in the green region, he would have stated that there is no statistically significant evidence that there is variance between groups so he would fail to reject H0. That would mean that there is no difference between stress levels of employees before, during, or after layoffs. H1 is the alternative. It is saying that there IS significant evidence to support that there IS a difference between the groups.

So what is the point? All these videos show how to do some calculations and what to look at to say reject or do not reject a null hypothesis, but do little to make that knowledge useful. Your title says "understand" and you start with an example of context, but your ending does not come back to that. The rejection decision is not the end of the story, it is the beginning. If you reject, that means there is something worth looking at and so it is time to do some post hoc tests. Teaching without any context, even a general context, of what it tells us when we have a low p-value (other than "reject Ho") is useless. Computers do the calculations. We need to educate how to define a situation as one we can use ANOVA for, and what our results tell us. It doesn't take much time to add in a short explanation of that.
@highlandragdoll6 жыл бұрын
Very late, but I couldn't agree more. I was waiting for the understanding part. I'm struggling a fair bit with research methods, and I think part of it is to understand something, I -NEED- to know it's practical application. So far, through three ANOVA videos, my knowledge of them can be completely summed up as... It's better than a T-Test when it comes to more than two groups. I don't really grasp why. For watching three videos on the subject, that's a pathetic amount of knowledge to take from things...I was waiting all video for him to get to the 'understanding' part .

I couldn't agree more. I'm not a student here looking to pass a test. I actually need to understand this stuff to apply it. If you're going to praise a product, you had at least better explain what's right about it instead of threaten people who give constructive reasons WHY it's wrong. This product is clean, but it is not a good-quality teaching of the terms of the expression. I explain elsewhere what the problem is. Can you explain between-group sum of squares? I didn't think so. Neither can anyone else who has watched this video. That's because he didn't teach what he said he would teach here.

What makes this presentation so nice is the near-complete avoidance of statistical symbols, that so often confuse more than they help. SSB, SSBG and SSA are all used in various places for Sum of Squares Between Groups, and since the symbols vary, they are not reliable or trustworthy, and do not signify what they are meant to, and therefore are useless. Your approach of presenting the terms using English words is the way to go. Thank you.

I'd encourage you to add the WHY to the beginning and end of this video (as commented @Xiaochen 5 years ago). WHY do we use the F-Statistic? What question are we trying to answer? (Do planned/ongoing layoffs have a measurable impact on employee stress?) And then at the end...did our calculations answer the question/solve our real-world problem? (YES, the layoffs definitely had an impact on employee stress) 90% of the challenge is often knowing how to ask the right question what "setup" needs to be done to answer the question. This video is awesome in that it clearly explains the concept, but could be made even better by better tying the technical details to the real-world question and answer.

Really a very great tutorial. I took intro to stats a couple of years ago and did well, but now I need to refresh in preparation for some econ and planning classes upcoming. This type of video really fit the bill. The only comment I would offer is that the pace is somewhat too slow; it would be more comfortable for me to watch if it was running about 20% faster. Unlike an "in person" lecture, there is always the 'pause' button for those who need a few extra moments for notes or to absorb.
