Amazing explanation! Why do I consitently read that the most energetic line that hydrogen emits ist that fromt he second shell to the first shell? Shouldn't it be when it drops from the 5th shell to the first? Thats the highest energy difference

E= HC/ lamda 1/lamda = R [(1/(N1^2)-(1/(n2^2)) When you simplify the second equation you will notice that lamba directly proportional to product of square of N1 and n2. Hence lamda is least when product is least which is when N1 is 1 and n2 is 2. From the first equation energy inversely proportional to lamda, thus when lamda is least energy is highest. Thus N1 to n2 is the most energetic line.

when does the electron give off energy in form of accoustic or heat, instead of light (photon)?
