How to calculate IHD - (without the formula!) - index of hydrogen deficiency IB Chem

Overwhelmed by the IHD equation (and annoyed it's not in the data booklet?). If, like me, you prefer to have a process to remember something rather than a formula then this might help you with an alternative way to solve those tricky IHD questions. If not, feel free to memorise the formula if that works for you!!!
