I explain the basics of the End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) Antenna, and how i calculate the lengths of my antenna for my targeted bands. I also go over some harmonics and how this can be used to combine a couple of bands on a single antenna.

10M = 29
15M = 21.325
17M = 18.139
20M = 14.25
40M = 7.2125
cut
Magic Number (468) feets
17M = 25.8, 25' 9.6"
20M = 32.84, 32' 10.08"
40M = 64.88, 64' 10.56"
Elements going to cut:
17M = 25.8, 25' 9.6"
20m = 7.04, 7' .48"
40M = 32.04 32' .48"

I noticed that too, that why i want to explain why i am cutting these sections to the specific lengths.

0:44 One defines the dipole antenna not by form, but by function. IEEE 145-1993… “dipole antenna (antennas). Any one of a class of antennas producing a radiation pattern approximating that of an elementary electric dipole. Syn: doublet antenna. NOTE: Common usage considers the dipole antenna to be a metal radiating structure which supports a line current distribution similar to that of a thin straight wire so energized that the current has a node only at each end. Fed in the center, end or anywhere in between, it's still a dipole antenna.

Interesting, so classification, End feds and middle feds are the same type of antenna. TODAY i learned.

Frank great job! I really enjoyed the video and it cleared one of the questions I was going to research, namely overall length. We got tons of snow here right now. I have to do some antenna repositioning, as well as crossing some Ts and dotting some i's with both my 20/17/12 fan dipole and a 40 dipole that I use for 40 and 15 meters. Unfortunately, I do not have the room for 80, let alone 160. This winter season, snow has taught me a lot about antenna placement/arrangement/positioning in summer vs winter. So once everything melts around here, I need to get out there and make the fixes. That Rig Expert really helps, but it is also a great teaching/learning tool. I am new to HAM Radio, got my gen on 8/30/21. This spring/summer I want to make an EFHW that will work on 40, 15, & 10. I need to add 10 to what I currently have. I want to set it up as a "sloper". I can put the end fed portion on my roof at 35 feet, and then slope it to a nearby evergreen that is about 50 feet high, so it would be sloping from 35 to 50 feet. My question is, I want to be able to run 600 watts. On these antennas, what dictates the max power rating of the antenna? Is it the wire gauge? If this goes well, then I plan to make another two EFHW for POTA, those would be low power, below 100 watt. I plan to get an 891 later this year. I live in NE Utah outside of Park City. We have several POTA & SOTA national and state park destinations really close by, figure 15 to 25 minutes away. 3 hours to Yellowstone & the Tetons. So it is ALL good stuff in our neck of the woods when it comes to POTA. 73 Louis WW7GBA

Hi Frank, consider cutting the 40m towards the low end (but still in) the phone section, then you may find that the higher bands fall closer to the phone sections, and you might find a balance where less tuning overall is needed...

You are correct, and i didn't really address this in the video. I choose not to do this so i can better have better 1:1 residence on the other elements.

Math Check, someone please. If we wanted to create the "magic do it all" linked EFHW targeting the middle (voice and data) of 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 30, and 40. we would get the following targets: 10 - 28.15; 12 - 24.94; 15 - 22.225; 17 - 18.118; 20 - 14.175; 30 - 10.125; and 40 - 7.15; Looking harmonics we would need 4 sections, one for 12, 17, 30, and 40 (40 can give us 20, 15, and 10. We could do a 20 (for 20 and 10) to shorten how much wire we put in the air but its not critically needed). Using the math 468/f gives us the following: 12 - 18.765ft; 17 - 25.83ft; 30 - 46.23ft. and 40 - 65.45ft. Separating should you do it, is this math right enough that you could do it?
