Great explanation, and great teaching. My only concern is that a stop loss does not warranty an exit at a given price but a signal to sell. And the order will be filled at whatever price the stock is currently trading. You can put a stop lost at 20 pips below the current price, but be out at 40 pips. In that case, you loss is more than anticipated.

I don’t know where I keep going wrong… so I have an account size of $1000, at 2% risk that leaves me with $20. The distance from my stop loss to entry price is 101 units or .34%. So 20$/101 = .19 BTC or $20/.34% = 5,882 …. How is it possible to get a position size larger than my total account capital? Where am I going wrong? Does this just mean I can use 100% of my trading capital?

What would be your account size if I keep positions overnight? In my first trade yes, the buying power is my account size but if I keep using my buying power as my account size my positions get diluted sizewise overtime. What would be the best way to calculate my account size at the beginning of every trade ? Thanks

Tradingview, Papertrade account. In the long position tool, my quantity displayed on the tool appears in 9-10 digit numbers. Is this a problem? How do I convert this to lot size, do I divide the entire 9-10 digit number by 10,000?

Is this based on zero leverage? I’m a little confused by leverage, if for talking sakes it’s leveraged at 10-1, would your 2% risk on the charts actually be £2000?

50 pips because that's what the pretend chart said had a support line. So the number of pips depends on your stock. his point is to FIRST see the pips THEN calculate how many shares you can afford without being too risky.. but most beginners flip it around

Thanks for hard work really appreciated. I have a question more like a example plz tell me if wht u told and I understand is correct or not the example is Capital is 10k , total risk on any trade is 2% so risk is 200 now if inbuy a share price at 1000 and and my SL is 990 so I can take 10 rs/share as my risk so the total no. Or share which is buy is 200÷10 =20 so I can buy 20 share as if this trade goes wrong then my loss would be 20 share× 10 rs loss per share =that would be 200 my risk . Is this correct ??? Surely I will subscribe the channel too thanks

IM CONFUSED. I have an account with £1000 and I always risk 2% of my account per trade. For example I will do a trade where I’m risking 2% (which is £20) and it tells me to use a 0.02 lot size which Is 20p per pip, but then I will have a stop loss of 200 pips. So if I hit stop loss I’m loosing £40 which is double what I should be. Anyone know why this is?

Great Video Mark, you explain things very well. Can anybody offer some advice on how to calculate position size using lots/volume on MT4 for Bitcoin & Ether?
@adrianroberts41744 жыл бұрын
Why not take a position with say 12.5% of the account, £1250, with stop-loss ensuring max £200 loss (2% of account). Yes, there's the chance of losing more this way by falling through a gap, but isn't that unlikely compared to the reward of a winning position of £1250 vs £200? Or even £2500 vs £200. Factor in the trading fees and it makes even less sense to trade with only £200 at a time. In other words, when using stop-loss, would you ever actually lose the entire trade of £200? If not then we aren't actually risking £200 or 2%. What am I missing, what's so important with this rigidity in position sizing?

This video and several others could come in useful: Tips for Trading with a Small Account kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3Sugoioq8edmMU In the end you are right, trading with 2% position size is not practical for small accounts. You have only one choice; that of increasing the risk...
@AI_010006 жыл бұрын
but isnt risking 2% means that is ur stop loss price? and not the position price.. coz u dont risk the whole position, just until it hits stop loss
@hunterx986 жыл бұрын
Not right! You missed the point. The 200 is the risk unit that mean you only lose 200 if this goes against you. If you have a stock at $100 and your stop is at $98 that means you are risking $2 per share to calculate your share $200/$2= 100 shares to buy and if it hit your stop loss you only lose $200. It doesn't mean you only buy shares by $200. I hope you got the point!

You're doing this all wrong. You can't define risk without a position size and a stop loss. Whatever dollar amount of potential loss relative to your total account is your percentage of risk.
