REQIREMENTS FOR PWHT -UCS56
Requirement of Pwht
UCS-56(D)(2)Heating Rate-222°C/Hr divided by Nominal Thick(Inches).
UCS-56(d)(2)Heating-140°C @4.6m Interval
UCS-56(d)(3) Soaking-83°C b/w the hottest & Coldest
UCS-56(d)(4)-Avoid Excessive Oxidation
UW-40(a)(2)-Min Overlap-1.5m
UCS-56(d)(5)Cooling rate Rate-280°C/Hr divided by Nominal Thick (Inches).
UCS-56(d)(5)After can be cooled in the still air
Mandatory under following condition:
For welded joints over 38mm nominal thickness
For joints over 32mm nominal thickness to 38mm thickness unless no preheat is applied at a minimum temp of 95C.
For all thickness of weld when imposed by service restrictions(UW2)
UW 2
a) Based on the requirement of UW-2(a) when our service is lethal and our material is carbon steel or low alloy steel.
b) Based on the requirement of UW-2(c) when our pressure vessel is unfired steam boiler and our material is carbon steel or low alloy steel.
c) Based on the requirement of UW-2(d) when our pressure vessel is subjected to direct firing and our material is carbon steel or low alloy steel.
How to calculate PWHT
Eg. Nominal Thickness of Pressure Vessel is 65mm.
As per table UCS 56-1 Hr /Inch Upto 2” & over
2” additional 15 minutes for every inch.
For 50mm-120Minutes
For 15mm-9 Minutes
Total Soak Time=129 Minutes.
