In this video, I have explained how to calculate the resistance value for LEDs for both series and parallel circuits. It is very important to select right resistance value before using LEDs in a circuit otherwise the LED may burnout.
I will request you to watch the complete tutorial video of the LED wiring basics calculation but you can also jump to any topic by click on the following Time Stamps:
01:03 How to wire LED lights in series and LED resistance calculation
05:24 How to wire LED lights in parallel and LED resistance calculation
Previous video Link:
How to calculate resistor value for LEDs in circuit @9V and 12V
• How to select resistor...
Basic electronics tools I use in my videos:
The 12V 10Amp DC Power Supply -- amzn.to/2qnMwp9
Basics Electronic Components Project Kit -- amzn.to/2sHpwSE
After watching this complete LED tutorial video you can easily connect multiple LEDs in series & parallel circuit and calculate the resistance value for LED. You also select the proper wattage resistor for the LED circuit.
Here I have used simple ohm's law to calculate the resistor value for the LED circuits. Similarly, you can also select the resistor for the IR led or arduino circuit.
In the next video, we will make a combination of series and parallel circuits with multiple LEDs.

I haven't found yet how you know what the Current is able to be supplied by the power source you choose. But I may not be understanding the relationship well enough yet between Current, Voltage, and wattage. Even knowing the formula, I haven't found a good explanation of the supply and demand relationship to where it makes sense to me. However, I am still learning.

Hello Sir. The amount of current that a power supply can provide must be in excess of the current that the circuit will draw. For these examples, we see that each LED has a *_Current Draw_* of 20mA, as shown in its data sheet at 0:55 into the video. So we look at how much current the LEDs *_Draw_* or pull from the power supply. Any excess current capability in the power supply simply goes untapped. Hope this helps.

@@richardhead8264 Thank you, sir. So if you use a variable power supply to power an LED circuit, it is the voltage (if too high) that can hurt the LED, not the current (as long as it is in excess of what the LED needs) ?
@richardhead8264
@richardhead8264 4 жыл бұрын
@@halfbeardsilvertongue5129 Yes, exceeding the maximum voltage of the LED will destroy it. However, a power supply with a current rating that exceeds that of the LED, will not harm the LED, since the LED will only draw the amount of current that it needs. To prove this theory, I just connected an LED to a 3V power adapter with a current rating of 1.5 Amps (and no resistor). This amperage value is 75X greater than what the LED draws. Yet the LED shined bright and cool to the touch.

धन्यवाद I like your clear explanation following the scientific method (hypothesis -> theory) and it gave me the general understanding I was looking for. Now I would like to propose you a deeper experiment to show us a parallel circuit where there are several pairs of different coloured LEDs and each single LED has its own resistor: with this system I've just learned you will have a more efficient circuit i.e. even when one of the LED will eventually burn out the others will continue to work, or you will need resistors with a much lower Wattage, although you will have to solder a few more than a single one. The parallel LED circuit for me is a necessity since I have a limited power source from a controller board that varies from 5 V to 7.4 V depending on the connectors If you will go through this demonstration it will be much helpful for my RC projects, and hopefully it will help others as well. @@TechStudyCell Yes, I also saw that video and again it's very clear. Iirc you are again calculating for a single R in a parallel circuit where V remains the same for each Led but I (current) is the sum of each LED's mA value that are present in the circuit. In a circuit with a single R it will be difficult and complicated to calculate the proper Ohm value when you have different diodes, and as I said if une of the LED burns also the rest of the circuit will be out of balance and burn or not work properly... Thanks for considering this matter.

Because the current is same in series. For parallel circuit we have to add current instade of voltage.
