Really well done in showing the step by step process of solving the problem. I do have a question, however. When solving for shear you got 112.5 K. That's .9*Fy*Aw*Cv1, but my understanding was you're supposed to use the 0.6 to make it 0.6*1.0(you corrected this)*Fy*Aw*Cv1 which would be 75 kips. Obviously it still passes, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something here. Thanks!
@Kestava_Engineering4 жыл бұрын
Scotty ausman your absolutely correct! nice catch. I have shown the equation properly but did not multiply by the 0.6. 75k is the correct shear capacity
@ngimatashi Жыл бұрын
Very minor correction: In the (Aw= d*tw) you chose tw as .250 inch which would be for W10*19. W10*15's tw is .230 in which ultimately gives shear capacity at 62 kips. Thank you for doing this. I am trying to get back into steel design and I really appreciate what you're doing.

trying to teach myself engineering. this is a great video been wrapping my brain around steel calculations and I have a steel manual aswell so it works out really well u teaching me like this i can flip threw mine and do the same as you compared to most videos... I start to get confused by all the variables in the equations is there anywhere in the steel manual that tells me what the variables stand for? subscribed!

Sir today i have to design a 6 meter cantilever I section for scaffold structure nearly have to take 10 KN at the free end. But the section i got is much bigger, like 457x19... if i tie it with rope at a distance of 1 m from free end, what you will think, it will be a good choice?
@Kestava_Engineering3 жыл бұрын
Any know how much 10KN is in LBS? (silly American over here)
@Structure-Dubai3 жыл бұрын
@@Kestava_Engineering I HAVE DESIGNED IT BY TAKING A UNI I SECTION OF 251.4X146.1X31, ATTACHING A STEEL CABLE OF 24MM AT A DISTANCE OF 1.5 M FROM THE FREE END. THE ANGLE IS VERY FLATE LIKE 24 DEGREE, THATS WHY TENSION IN THE CABLE IS MUCH HIGH. THATS WHY I HAVE TO TAKE A CABLE OF MUCH HIGHER STRENGTH. DEFLECTION IS NOW BELOW 10 MM. 10 KN = 2248 LBS

sir how much load can a *16mm TMT Bar* can hold safely? My weight is 75 KGs, can I hang safely in it? I wanna make a bar for *pull-up* exercise, plz reply...
@Kestava_Engineering4 жыл бұрын
country lover - if the bar is made of 36ksi grade steel and it is a solid bar (not a pipe) the bar is sufficient for you to use as a pull up bar. I recommend the bar not be more than 1.2m long and that you properly secure the bar at the ends into a strong support system or walls.

Hey Rich, I noticed bf/2tf is 7.41 for w10x15 in the property tables. Just wondering why the length to thickness ratio from table B4.1b calls for b/t and not bf/2tf? You are correct since I have it scratched into my steel manual from coolage, but no idea why b/t is assumed bf/2tf. I also have a scratched in note saying lambda = bf/2tf = b/t in the margins of table B4.1b in case that offers any insight. I just found eqn F3-2 on pg 16.1-49 defines lambda as bf/2tf but nothing further linking lambda to b/t in table B4.1b... wildly unclear to me! Cool job on your videos my man! You have my support, Team Kestava woot woot! -JD
@Kestava_Engineering2 жыл бұрын
HI! - if you look at the definition of b in tables B4.1 - b is actually 1/2 of bf. thats why they show bf/2tf in the properties section
