I worked through the example, a Hollow section with a diameter of 139.7mm and thickness of 4mm (bluebook hot finished) has an I value of 3.93x10^6 , therefore using the formula within this video should produce a deflection of 13mm... 13 < 20 deflection limit. Thereby satisfying the deflection check. Or alternatively, if you want the same section size, 5mm thickness should suffice for a 114.3mm diameter. Thanks for the great videos! Only just found this channel, but can't wait to watch more! :)

Can you carry out a calculation for the flagpole foundation in compacted gravel/clay ground, the hole to be drilled with an auger, or an excavation filled with 40n concrete.

At the end, how was height/300 determined as the limit for lateral deflection?
@lesliescott933211 ай бұрын
In your example, Ix is incorrectly calculated because you took the inside radius to be (D - t) / 2 instead of (R - t) or (D - 2t) / 2.

@@StructuralEngineerCalcs pleas ..check the r for internal circle..
@StructuralEngineerCalcs3 жыл бұрын
@@emadalhafez6172 Thank you for pointing this out. You are right! for the internal circle you should deduct from both side. Inadvertently, this has been missed

If the Thickness of Pole is 3mm, shouldn't the Inner Radius = Outer Radius - 3mm? How can the inner Radius = Outer Radius -1.5mm instead???

Yes you are right...there is a mistake in the I value calculation

I for a tube is 0.049*(D^4-d^4) - avoid use of r , as it does not exist without measuring diameter first. I say you have the wrong answer for deflection. And question can not be answered as outside diameter or thickness was not stated.
