CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS. Iv been asking this question for a long time and never get a str8 answer. So I joined the military in 2004 and will retire in 2024. I fall under the old school retirement system where as soon as I retire in 2024 at age 39,, ill immediately begin to collect about $3k/month for the rest of my life. If I die my wife will still collect that until she dies. If I do the math, the longer I live the more I collect. If I live to be 78 (average American male) that would be $1.4million collected. Not to mention all the medical benefits. How do you calculate something like that into a net worth???? Thanks!
@DebtFreeEssentials2 жыл бұрын
A way to do it is to multiply the monthly by 12 ($3000 x 12 = $36k/yr) to get an annual amount then multiply that annual amount by 25 ($36k x 25 = $900k) to get an equivalent lump sum. This rough estimate reverses the F.I.R.E. (Financially Independence Retire Early) calculation which assumes your investments earn ~6-8% annually and you withdraw ~3-4% annually for 30 years. The difference between 8% and 4% accounts for inflation, bad markets, and other factors. Hope this helps 🤓

6:37 paying off what you owe and making early payments is NOT the right way to increase your net worth. In fact, borrowing money and leverage is the only right way to build net worth. If I can spend $200k to buy a property at $1m, and that property goes up to $1.2m in 1 year that’s a 100% return on investment. If I had used $1m of my own cash, that’s a 20% return. As long as the cost of the money you borrow (interest %) is less than the return on your investment, you should be borrowing as much as you can.

I’m in the same boat. I think it’s funny how knee jerk reactions people have with no pension. Ironically, 60% surveyed believe pension should be included. Just because you have a 401k and can draw from it, you need to pull money out the same as a pension or you won’t have a future. I also have a 401K, retired this year at age 56 and have a net worth of 1.3 million and zero debt. If you apply the 4% rule to my pension, that is like adding an additional 1.6 million

Me- How can I make money to calculate networth
@kurts37793 жыл бұрын
If you want to see your networth just look at your balance sheet. If you wanna see the whole picture, look at your balance sheet, statement of cashflows and income and expense aka profit and loss statement. Networth is a snapshot of your current position and can be meaningless depending on who you talk to. Your networth can be your network and as often in the game of wealth creation, it is not about how much money you have but how much money you have access to(your network). In one of Trump's books he makes reference to a homeless man on the street being 9 billion dollars richer than he was as he was 9 billion in debt after filing an assignment aka bankruptcy, but with his persuation, influence, determination and his network, which led him to access to credit which catapult him to a networth that many so called snapshot paper millionaire's could only dream of. My mentor, a very wealthy business man of over 1500 employess across the globe, once told me not be to overly fixated on networth. Networth is the lungs, cashflow is the air, and you need both, but work on hard on those relationships. Your network.

@Mo-vo4vo9 ай бұрын
Networth has nothing to do with taxes and profits, unless the taxes are owed. Look at it this way, you earn money, and you spend money. The leftover is your net income, assuming you paid your taxes. Now you can save that net income. It is that savings that will be used to calculate your networth. It is cash that you own. If you have filed your tax return but haven't paid it as yet, then that is money you owe, and may go on the liabilities side of the networth.
