He's not wasting your time he's showing you how to be a better at trolling. Calibrating and using the precision trolling book will help you put your lures in the right depth. If you just want to drag them around not having a clue what depth your at then don't do it. Guaranty if you try it you will put more fish in the boat.

Wish I new this 25 years ago!!! Great video! Best way by far to accurately calibrate your line counters. Thank you!

You apparently did a great job calibrating your reel for 100'. If, however, you let out 50' or 150', it is going to be off. Fishing is not rocket science. We just need to compensate a little for distances other than the distance calibrated. If we move the tip to 50' and 150', we will know how much to adjust at those distances. Thanks for the video.

What happens if you get snagged and you have to break off a few feet of line?
@dallaswood41173 жыл бұрын
Already mentioned but yeah it’s accurate to one hundred feet but that’s all before that it’s long and after that it’s short

Do you recommend bulk line or splicing?

What kinda line you running
@marcmatthews79324 жыл бұрын
I guess it's "more accurate" but when you deviate from 100, the accuracy will be off, incrementally.

What's the point? As long as you know how much line you had out when you caught the fish what difference does it make? The first time that you get a tangle and end up cutting off some line your calibration goes out the window. To catch a fish all you have to be is smarter than the fish.

+samiam1150 so you can match that depth on other rods accurately....

The point is that accuracy is important, especially if using more than one rod. Set up for multi-rod trolling and get a hit on one line and you have no idea the actual distance, how are you going to set the other lines?

Just did all my reels once I figured how much line the rest were about the same amount

How do you add reel? Are you tying knots in your line man?
@dallaswood41173 жыл бұрын
The line on the reel was still attached to the bulk line spool when he attached the line to the stake in the ground

In-fact, no matter how you calibrate it, it still won't accurate! Example a reel calibrated based on 100 ft. distance, it's will ONLY accurate at the point of exactly 100 ft. When you drop the line until the counter showing 50 ft., the line will be slightly more than 50 ft. due by the line released from the bigger diameter roll of line before the 100 ft. In the same theory, when you drop the line until the counter showing 150 ft., the line will be slightly less than 150 ft. due by the line released from the smaller diameter roll of line after the 100 ft. The accurate depth counter is the type of independent counter which attached on the fishing rod, because they measure directly the fishing line passing through it instead of measure from the turning of the spool.

As long as you don't let any line out, your set. If you let any line out - well your counter is off again. I guess you'd better not go fishing where you need to let out more than a few feet of line. See ya at the fishing hole !!!

Depending on how many people on my boat I'll run up to 9 rods. Never calibrated a reel in 15 years and my buddies and I end up will full freezers.
@peterosko50404 жыл бұрын
A calibrated reel is a necessity when vertical jigging to suspended fish.
@upnorthkenny96748 ай бұрын
And then your first day out, you get a snag and peel off about 30 feet a line reels done😂
@georgepretnick44606 жыл бұрын
If your LC is off a little, and you let out 52 feet instead of 50, it makes no difference. As long as you get that bait/lure to the approximate depth, splitting hairs over a foot or two is a waste. Keep all your reels filled to about the same spool depth. That's all the consistency you really need.
@peterosko50404 жыл бұрын
George...I find that accuracy in a line counter is critical when vertical jigging to suspended fish.
