Hi there! The purpose of echo-to-echo is to find out how thick is the coat of primer or paint, but if you are trying to find the same value by zeroing or velocity, how do I find how thick the coat is, or how thick the material is?? Thank you!!

If you take a look on the top center of the UT Scope there is a small digital display rectangular box that says: 2-1. This is measuring your ultrasonic thickness already subtracting the coating (paint layer). The bigger rectangular box on the top right that says: 1TH is the ultrasonic thickness with the coating (paint layer). What you can do to find the thickness of the coating you can subtract the 1TH from 2-1 and that should give you the coating thickness. Example: 1TH - 2-1 = X 0.515” - 0.500” = 0.015”(layer of coating)

What are you saying when you say first box is echo with ?"coating"? ant 5th box is echo without?"coating"? Coating or coding? What do you mean by coating?

I am saying “coating” (e.g. a layer of paint). The 5th box (5th digital display) is reading echó to echo, your second peak. This is used when you have a surface that is coated (with a layer of paint) it gives you the thickness reading subtracting the layer of coating. The third digital display (3rd box) is reading your first peak and it is giving you your thickness measurement (e.g. if your inspecting a bare surface with no paint). I hope this clarified your question .
