That was a very large help. It was very thorough and to the point. I am usually working on single cylinder motors, so this was reassuring for the situation.

Awesome video. I have a 2022 defender with the twin 1000cc engine. Just replaced the starter due to cranking slow when hot. Read a couple posts of people saying the valves needed adjusting causing the engine to have excessive heat. This is the exact video I needed. Thank you!

Great video, thanks Corey. I've got a Can-Am Defender HD9 which has basically the same Rotax V-Twin, 973cc. I plan on using this video when my value adjustment schedule comes up. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this.

Iv bought a non runner 2013 canam 500, just checked valve clearances like this and front cylinder was in spec but rear cylinder when i turn motor over with 14mm allen socket nothing moves in the valve train and i cant see the cam chain at all, its not running on the sprocket. We have had it running on one cylinder which would obviously be the front cylinder. Im guessing this is a serious and expensive engine out fix up job? Can it be fixed with motor in bike?

TDC is also indicated on the flywheel. I you remove the single 8mm bolt on the camshaft sensor (black cylinder with wire coming out- top right of cover) and remove the sensor, you can look into the hole and see a 1/1 or 2/2. 1/1 being TDC for front cylinder 1, 2/2 being TDC for cylinder 2. Subsequently, the scores on the cam gear will be parallel with the head per respective cylinder.

Quick question I’m sure the ticking that seems to be so common on these Can-Am. That’s what you hear when you first started up. It takes real soft and then once you put it down in gear, it generally stops or once the machine warms up a little bit??

I have a single cylinder and adjusted the valves to spec. I still have a tick. I’ve heard mention of a tick being normal in the rotax. Opinion? Have ever had issues with rockers making noise?

Are you doing this with the motor cold or hot?

The best thing to do after initially setting them with the "middle" measurement is to take the feeler gauge at the upper limit of recommended valve clearance and if it fits, you know it's too loose. ex. Exhaust .11-.19mm so the next feeler is .203 I think and that SHOULDN'T fit. On contrary, the .102mm should fit with ease.

Regarding the tick marks on the chain sprocket: on cylinder 2, the rear one, the one you are showing in this video;: Are the marks that need to be parallel to the cylinder head should be positioned below center of the sprocket or above the center of the sprocket? On cylinder 1, front one, they are below the center of the sprocket next to the edge of the cylinder head. Where they should be on cylinder 2? Thanks.
@wildrice9111
@wildrice9111 2 жыл бұрын
If you set TDC for cylinder 2 by using the flywheel marks, then you should be confirmed that TDC for cylinder 2 shows the ticks on the bottom of the gear and parallel with the head

Does this work for 650 outlander ? and if so if the exhaust is at top dead center do I leave it and do the intake at the same position?

Have you noticed the valves being too tight often? I would think everything would loosen the more the motor is used. Great video and instructions. Thanks. Do you have any experience with the fuel line clamps? Are they reusable and do they take special tools to tighten them?
@donrostron1269
@donrostron1269 Жыл бұрын
Speaking for my 2007 Outlander 650, the fuel lines clamps are reusable as long as you don't break them like I have done. No special tools needed for mine, they just clips. I replaced the one that I broke with a ziptie, it works perfectly!

Great video. Thank you very much. Did you hear that pinging noise around the 50 hour mark when they recommend you do some maintenance or is this something that needs to be addressed throughout the life of the outtie?
