Got my first deer this year 2023 and was nervous about messing everything up. After watching your videos, it gave me the confidence i needed to skin the head. Now on to the rest of the process so i can have a cool lookin wrap to wear. Thanks and keep up the beautiful work.

I’ve been watching your videos on deer taxidermy great videos by the way. So today 11/20/22 I have decided to bite the bullet and mount my first deer. I just finished caping out the head and it was easier than I thought. Thanks for your videos. I watched and paused then cut and pause. I’m going to continue to follow your videos on the next steps. Thanks again.

Quick question if you don’t mind. I noticed that you use two different types of clay. Is there a difference between the two? Thanks.
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles Жыл бұрын
There really isn't. Typically the white clay is much firmer, but not always, depending on the moisture content. When I buy it, I will sometimes alternate between the 2 because I like a softer clay for the ears and firmer for eyes and skull cap. This can also be achieved from opening the plastic slightly and allowing the moisture to drain and evaporate. The top will be firmer while you can flip it and get a softer clay from the bottom.

I'm glad i found this channel. I have several 140' bucks on my wall. I also have several 140" bucks just racks with skull plates because i can't afford to pay$600 for every buck to get mounted. I'm going to to start on my first one real soon. Because of this channel. Thank you.

Thank you! You have been so helpful and such a good teacher my taxidermist said he was quitting deer and just doing birds and fish. So I decided I wanted to try it everybody local and online made it seem so hard. But you made it seem so easy and simple and like you say. “The deer is dead he ain’t going nowhere” lol it has helped me a lot thank you so much!

After you cape him out and cut the skull cap off what are your steps on cleaning the skull cap? I noticed it looks like your soaking them in something. Thanks for the videos and info its very helpful for a beginner.
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles Жыл бұрын
I'll clean off all the meat with my scalpel and then use a flat head screwdriver to pop the membrane loose that separates the skull from the brain. Then I use needle nose pliers to remove the membrane. I spray it off with water and then cover the skull cap with borax.

Thank you so much brother. As a first year taxidermist who finally just opened up his shop I wanted to say thank you for all of your videos and instructions that you have shared with everyone. You've been able to help me increase my knowledge times a 100. Watching your videos and applying a good many of your techniques to what I was already doing has taken my mounts to a level that I didn't think I could reach in the past year. My confidence level has definitely risen a great deal. There's still things I need to learn and then apply but watching your channel has been a game changer for me.

One last question. What brand blades do you use. I know some are definitely better than others. You were able to do the whole head with just 1 blade so those are definitely good ones and I'd like to order some of those to go along with the hobby knife I just put in my cart

So what happens if it get freezer brunt? What can I do to fix it?
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles 2 жыл бұрын
If the freezer burn is too bad, it will not accept the pickle or tan and the hair will slip. I have had some luck, however, using a little water to moisten the burnt area enough to allow salting, and then the pickle will soften the hide on up for mounting. Either way, freezer burn is just plain bad.
