#1. I love b&w portraits. With black and white you see the person immediately. With color you see the color first.

Hi Chris! Blessings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷... I don't have much since I started photography (two years)..., but in all honesty I feel very proud to have found your teaching in this.... For me you are a great inspiration and I hope to become not only a great talented photographer like you, but also a great person with a great heart full of humility as yours is.... Pura Vida! 🙏🏻👍

Hi, Chris! I appreciate your insights on finding your personal preferences and how there are different ways to interact with the person you are taking a portrait of. I’m similar to you in that I like to have a quieter place to really interact with someone and find connection and a greater understanding of who that person really is. When you are taking someone’s portrait, what sort of questions do you like to ask them? In that limited time you have with them, how do you connect with them and allow them to let you have a glimpse of their authentic personality?

So I downloaded a sample of your Authentic Portraits book (and then ordered a physical copy), and I got my answer to my question. It wasn’t really want I wanted to hear, and yet it also was. I kind of wanted you to just supply a list of questions a photographer can ask their subject, which I would then find superficial and discard. 😆 I imagine that you reach inward and seek for authentic connection with the individual, even during just a few minutes of a quick session. You allow yourself to be seen and known, and invite someone else to do so as well. That sounds exhausting on the one hand, but thrilling on the other. I’m really grateful I found your channel and your book. ❤️

Cool, I've never been the first to comment on a video before. I prefer the b&w image, image #1. I can't point to any one aspect other than It has an elegance the other two don't have.

I prefer #1 too. I just discovered you on KZbin via iphonePschool. I learned so much from the lesson on how you communicate with the people you are capturing portraits so they feel at ease, and comfortable. I appreciate You and your sharing. Aloha from Kauai!
