Been searching for a solution for this all day you're a life saver! I'm on an M1 Macbook pro using OBS for the first time and couldn't figure out why my desktop audo wasn't working, searched everywhere and this was the solution! PS it did not show Built-In Output as an option for me but it showed me headphones I was using so I chose that and it worked. Thank you!

ty ty ty! ive watched so many videos on this and this has by far been the easiest method. Side note: there was a slight difference with mine. My computer says "Macbook Pro speakers" vs "built in"... and for others that are wondering if this will change the outcome, it does not. Follow this tutorial step by step, it works!

Great tutorial. I like blackhole as a free option but have since moved over to Loopback. Price tag is a little on the high side but it allows for a wider range of flexibility and ease of use. Keep the great videos coming!!

Yeah. Personally I think if Mac is your streaming platform eventually spending the money is worth it. But for people starting out blackhole will do the job. :-)

Hi Michael, thanks for this. I have had a frustrating time trying to get this to work on my MacBook Pro (10.14.6 Mojave). When I installed BlackHole and went through the steps, I then was no longer able to listen through my (corded) headset in Virtual DJ! I uninstalled the whole thing due to the volume keys no longer working on the keyboard. IS there a better solution that will also allow me to RECORD my Twitch streams in mp3 format? I also noticed that BlackHole will only record in mp4 which won't allow me to edit and listen in iTunes/iMovie (post-production/splicing). Hope you can help, thanks!

I work with music production, I'm a noob- but my DAW can only be picked up by setting it output to the blackhole driver, but then when I use the blackhole sound output on audio, I can't hear anything. I also work with a pair of bluetooth headphones, so that's a separate audio output. Is there any way that I can hear my audio and have them also route to the blackhole driver?

Thanks for the great video, very well explained. im trying to use this with OBS to stream my game window.. But im having a really hard time with the sound being distorted and crackly? my mic is sounding good, its just the game play window sound that is horrible. I had watched another video a couple weeks ago about this but they skipped the steps about having the inputs in the proper order and right clicking & selecting “use this for video output” in the Midi. My midi kept going back to other settings and I couldn’t figure it out. I only got to step 2 because when I opened audio midi setup and added the multi output device, there was no built in output to select with black hole2ch. Is there anyway I can add built in output on this?

Hi great video as always. I've followed the steps and got all setup but the problem I'm having is on my MAC is when trying to get from Zoom I get nothing apart from a strange white line through the volume control on Audio mixer and no sound coming through I've tried loads of steps even what you have shown on the video it's really frustrating and advice you can give me please?

First of all, thank you very much for sharing the necessary information. I have a question. Why can't I record the sound of my custom microphone even though I set it up the same as the video you showed me? Computer output sound and microphone input sound are detected normally on OBS. I recorded the video while playing and talking, but only the sound output from the computer is recorded and the sound of the user's microphone is not recorded. Of course, 'Multiple Output Devices' was selected under 'Audio Settings' in the Mac Top Menu. What did I miss?

Hello Michael. Great video. I have watched alot of videos and yours was the only one which gave me a proper solution to my audio problem :) just one question tho: im dj-ing online and i need to listen thru my monitor speakers as im doing so. now the blackhole only manages to bypass the macbook air speakers and not the external speakers. how do i get my settings to go thru audio on the macbook and the speakers at the same time? all the while going live online. thanks

If you don’t that you’ll will have echo on your stream. You should use headphones and monitor from obs for proper stream audio.

Echo is from t things hearing the same sound. So adding desktop audio through speakers and then a mic would be 2 desktop audios. That may be it. Headphones is the answer. Or turning the speakers all the way down.

Hello everyone! For some reason still isn't working for me :( I'm pressing "Start Recording", but in the output file there is no audio at all. Could you help me please? Maybe something is wrong with the OBS Audio settings? (Settings → Audio → Global Audio Devices) Do I need to disable / enable there something? P.S. The way I have come to understand it, and I could be wrong, but the headphone jack on a Mac Book Pro is actually a TRRS jack but it will only accept the separate mic and headphones (3 stripes total), if you plug them into the 2 for 1 converter cord FIRST, then into the MB Pro. If adapter cord in first, it won't see the mic. When I do this on OBS, it seems to grab the mic AND the desktop sound on the same stereo (2 channels) ???
