Thank you for the information. I purchased a Lemon Cypress last spring that lived on my deck until the weather cooled. I then placed it in the basement under grow lights and it was happy there. After Thanksgiving I moved it to the main level entryway to use as Christmas decor and it is much warmer and dry upstairs. I will be sure to give it a good mist today.... It will be interesting to see the topiary and little ones grow, please keep us updated.

Thanks Mindy your conifer did really well. I am going to turn the other Lemon Cypress into topiaries later today I am hoping they will look beautiful eventually in my kitchen then move them to the deck for the summer. I have been kicking myself I didn’t buy a larger one when I seen it I went back for it and it was gone dang!

Amazing video! I've had a lemon cypress for a year, bought it last christmas and it's still healthy. I haven't repotted it yet so I will do that shortly, it got so big for its pot. I mist it every single day. I will try to propagate it soon!

Sometimes i find with trees outside they just want to be left alone in their own area away from other plants so disappointing though cause they would have looked beautiful with the hydrangea the colour contrast would be stunning.

I have had one for 7 years that lives outside (zone 8b) I have repotted several times. It has been in a 22 gallon container for 2 years. It is 4.5’ tall and the bottom of the lemon cypress is the diameter of the 22 gallon container. It has never been pruned. This spring I noticed brown spots on it and I am going to prune it in a topiary form. Didn’t know you could do that with this tree. I do feed mine with miracle grow all purpose liquid fertilizer throughout the growing seasons when I do my flower beds. Last summer took several vacations and visited family as all my family live in various states. I didn’t keep up on the fertilizing and had a friend come and water during those times. That may have played a factor in it having some brown areas. I know you said you can’t save them if they start to turn brown but I am going to try. At least I can try to propagate it. Thank you for the informative video!
@creatingmygarden7 ай бұрын
I think it’s worth trying to save it if it’s not to far gone I mean what’s the worst thing that can happen it does or you save it. What I mean by far gone is brown to a crisp on the inner branches closest to main stem if it’s just brown on the tips and the odd branch I would prune it and get rid of the dead and give it a good soak frequently. When they’re outside they tend to be more resilient let me know how it goes.
@tinaknutsen7 ай бұрын
@@creatingmygarden Will do. It still has a lot of green The areas that are brown are close to the trunk. I think I can shape 3 balls on it…we’ll see as I get into it. Again thanks for sharing the tips!😊

Great information for me here, I've seen these plants in stores and on your channel but shied away from them because I wasn't sure of their care. Now I want to try some for topiaries like you showed today which was another task I wasn't sure that I could do successfully. Summers here are so hot and dry, would you put it in a shaded area?
@creatingmygarden11 ай бұрын
Hi Terria they like bright light so put them in area where they get full sun and lots of water.
@sandralefevre2603Ай бұрын
Is there a better fertilizer to use to keep it that bright light green color? I fertilize mine and it seems like it's a more of a medium green like it's darker so it had to be higher in nitrogen I would imagine but can you recommend what you use to keep it chartreuse
@creatingmygardenАй бұрын
They don’t line to be fertilized so I don’t fertilize them and they stay that beautiful chartreuse green I just keep them in a window and keep them moist and I stray them down with water so they don’t dry out.
@sandralefevre2603Ай бұрын
If I fertilized mine and it is a deeper green will it go back to chartreuse by not fertilizing?
@creatingmygardenАй бұрын
It should gradually change I haven’t tried that but it’s worth trying worse case you start feeding it again. Let me know how this works out. I should experiment with that over the winter.

Machos saludos

Lemon Cypress can go outside in zones 7 and up it doesn' t like cold temperatures below 0. So if your climate is colder then zone 7 you will need to over winter it inside then you can put it outside after all danger of frost in the garden or in a pot. Just remember to bring it in for Winter unless your zone doesn't get freezing temperatures. Mine stay in my kitchen all winter in the window where they get east sun. I hope to put them out when it warms up and not freezing at night. I will probably put them in containers. Hope this helps.

@@creatingmygarden Thank you so much for being so kind to answer me. I understand that for the New York weather zone it might me just too cold and needs protection. My dream was to have it outdoors but perhaps I put in pots as I am thinking that will keep them warm in winter ;) or in containers outdoors or maybe there is an option to wait they get stronger in time to put them in full soil, just always dreamer and thinking it might o:) Thank you🥰

I have a lemon cypress that i got about 2-3 years ago. It is still alive and doing fairly well putting out new growth, but the leaves that are closest to the center have turned brown and brittle. It has been like that for over a year. The plant is still clearly alive and not going anywhere, but what can i do to decrease the browning as it looks terrible. I am in southern California by the beach.
@creatingmygarden9 ай бұрын
Check it for spider mites first see if u put a piece of paper under it and gently shake it if anything falls into the paper and moves. Next is to see if it’s dozing any sap? The other thing is inadequate watering or not enough humidity . Some options if possible to careful clean out the centre to try to save it or if possible turn it into a topiary if there are still some good areas on the plant. You could try putting the pot on a bed of rock that are sitting in water to increase humidity after you carefully clean out the dead growth. Give these things a try and see if u can save it. Once they start dying out it can be challenging to revive them. You could also do these things and pot it up as well to see if it’s root bound and to give it more moisture in a larger pot. Hope this helps.

I purchased a European Cypress just before Christmas 2023, it has been doing well in the house, on a window with filtered light where my Orchids do very very well. I have been pretty ill & believe I have damaged it beyond help? With my mind in an altered state of mind It is a bit brittle & not the beautiful green it was. I discovered it sitting in water for maybe 3 days & over fertilized the poor little girl. I dumped the water it was standing in & have been sitting it on the deck railing daily & bringing it in nightly there really is no sign of improvement…. Any suggestions???

Life happens for sure don’t feel bad you are on the right track. Give it a good 6 weeks to bounce back and if you can start misting it every other day to combat the dryness. If that doesn’t work if you can find another one start over but here’s hoping with some tlc it will start putting on new growth and you can eventually cut off the brittle stems.
