i adore fire skinks, i’ve always wanted one. my mouse is currently in a 40 gallon breeder but he is getting a 6x3ft. cage after i move (a week from today!!) and i am going to have an empty 40 gallon breeder tank. now i really want a fire skink! i’ll do lots more research before getting one though.

I really appreciate you for making this video. It answered a lot of questions I had including a specific question about the Exo-Terra 36x18x18. Ive been eyeing that specific enclosure but wasn't sure which lizards would fit. You hit a major point on how a lot of websites and videos say 20 long which can confuse many people. Great video!! Thanks!

Ha, my fire skink only comes "out" at night to drink water, or if I throw in crickets. Otherwise I have to dangle a worm in front of a hide to get her where I can pick her up and hold her. I work with mine a lot so she is super docile.

Hello Jessica, oh my is he ever a cutie! Your video was top notch on caring for him. I can just imagine the sight of him scampering up your sleeve. Sorry,but that gave me a chuckle. Kind of like when one of my butterfly agamas took of running on the couch over one of the dogs. The dog was like can't you control those things! Should have seen me move. I love your channel. I am so glad that you mentioned the wild caught/captive bred issue. I have been having issues finding captive bred specimens. Do you have a breeder or seller you can recommend? I would only want a captive bred one, and would not support wild caught. It is certainly challenging to find a captive bred one. I also appreciate how you stress LARGER enclosures!

You shouldn't have took it from the wild... It hurts the wild population which is already under stress from people taking them cause they are cute.... You should always get captive bred reptiles and amphibians or adopt one not steal it from its natural environment.

Hello Jessica, I'm a little late to the party, but I've got a few questions I'd wanted to ask since seeing this video. I'm planning on adding a fire skink to my household, and I'm in the process of getting all my stuff straight on building the enclosure. First of all, really informative vid, very useful. But I want to know, do you mix your substrate with water in a separate container to get the right humidity, prior to adding it to the enclosure? I only saw the one UVB light, is that the only light installed on the enclosure, or would you recommend a separate heating lamp? You placed the heat mat underneath the enclosure, but I'm afraid the skink might dig down to get cool, only for the temp to get warmer as it crawls down. Would you place the heatmat to the side of the enclosure, or would that diminish the effect of the mat? Once again, great vid. Hope you, Roku and the other critters are doing well.
@blooblooberry2759
@blooblooberry2759 3 жыл бұрын
I’m late now and you probably already figured this out but I have lizards and in my opinion don’t get the heat Matt maybe just get a heat lamp with a brick that’ll heat up, so it can dig under and go to the other side and get cool

I don't own one of these yet. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn once, so let me tell you that everything here is wrong. Fire Skinks are called "Fire" Skinks because they are hot and they start fires. They should be kept in a 75 gallon fish aquarium and fed a hot dog once a week. Please make sure to add at least 5,000 cleaning snails as they will pick up after him when he refuses to clean his room. That's basically all you need.

If you give him uvb you shouldn't need to give him synthetic d3. Sounds like overkill

My Halmahera Blue tongue Skink, He is now 3 months old, I got him in May, he was Born a day after my birthday! I got him from a website called Undergroundreptiles, he was $300.00! 😬 All together, it was $600.00 including hides, substrate, lighting. And yes, they are not a cheap animal, the blue tongue skink can be up to, two feet long, they have really cute hotdog bodies with with tiny legs, and a longggg tail. Every morning I turn Feran’s light on, and my leopard geckos lights’ on. My Halmahera blue tongue skink is diurnal like us, which means they only need a light/heat lamp, I have a hide/rock under his lamp so he can bask, yes they do bask like she said, but they don’t tan!!😂 As a baby your skink will be very afraid of you, and you will love seeing your skink grow and be more happy around people, I suggest getting a skink, they are such dosile and sweet creatures to own and watch grow, thank you for providing me with this information. Im watching the diet video after😬😂. ~Meah

From what I’ve read, mice are very fatty and should be offered seldom if at all to fire skinks.
