A great video of info! When you mentioned the poo build up it reminded me that there is another health problem with not cleaning poo: when it dries it starts to turn to powder, and the exposure to this powder can cause irritation to lungs (both bird and human). A little is not bad, but if you have birds for decades, this constant exposure can build up and cause allergies (like “bird keeper’s lung”) and other disorders.

Olenna has two dowel perches in her cage, at the bottom. One gives her access to her foraging wheel and the other she uses as a toy flipping around it and the ladder next to it with her foot toys. I did score them though so the are uneven. The rest are mostly manzenita with a cholla wood and a rope boing ^^ and outside the cage is a grape wood one. There is also a single pedi perch, with a smooth top(only sands on the sides)

My budgie hates baths. I tried normal water, shower perches (she tried to fly away) spray bottle (she was scared of it) so I think I'll buy a bathtub for her and maybe she'll try it

They can be so fussy! Try a bowl of water with lettuce in it - lot of budgies like bathing in this way 😂
@mansishah6579
@mansishah6579 4 жыл бұрын
My budgies will only bathe if it is sunny outside, if they are next to a window, and if there is some sort of herb or veggie in the bath. Also, there are things you can do to make the spray bottle less scary. Be persistent and patient, she’ll bath eventually.

I agree with the sunshine comment; my birds are extra interested in bathing when there’s lots of sun. Also, if the room is cool they are less interested in bathing. Other bath ideas I have used: a kitchen sink with very little water in the bottom and just a thin drizzle of water coming from the faucet, and a shallow plate with water.

Sophie I got some nail clippers! But Fluffy's nail suddenly became shorter 😂 I think it's because he kept on playing on my tree stand and his nails worn down. I'll just try to trim them when they grow longer. Maya's nails are getting a little longer tho, but she will now allow me to trim them. She will bite me hard if she sees me touching her foot. I'm giving her some sanding perches and the seashell calcium perch so she can hopefully trim them herself

I recently bought a playstand for my bird, and the top is just a thin mettle wire. The reviews were all saying to buy sisal rope to wrap around it so the bird can stand on it. I bought natural untreated sisal rope off of amazon, but I feel like the rope is kind of spiky and rough for my birds feet. Is all sisal rope that rough? Will it hurt my birds feet to stand on?

I went to a vet and they recommended basic things like soaking feet in epsom salts and bumble foot has been an issue in one for over a year. I went to the vet twice about it ad got general info and recently medication to kill what is on her feet (flamazine) Which after looking at side affects I am kind of wary about it. She is 24 and previously has been cage bound. She could stand to loose 15 *bird pounds and im worried. The younger grey is kind of a control and you can tell her clampy grip is bad and she looses balance. Her toes are also cracky (I don't know if im just noticing it now though ☹ I look at her toes and now you can see small specks of white under the skin which is scary.

@@BirdNerdSophie dear sister, I'm residing in India. The chick was given to me a week back and is two months old. She has got bumblefeet on both legs ever since I've got her. At first i didn't know what it was & thought maybe it's some baby scan which will heal eventually, but since yesterday there's some blood ozzing out and she can't perch properly and I'm sure she's in pain. 😒 I just googled and found out today it's called Bumble foot and soaked her feets in luke warm water with epsom salt. I don't know what else should I do to relieve her pain. Pls help! (Also thank you for your prompt reply)🙏

@@cutiepiei4645 you won’t be able to treat it properly at home as she really needs to see a vet if it’s in that condition. You can give some cayenne pepper to help with the pain but she will likely need antibiotics and a stronger painkiller - good luck!

What do you think about sunlight for birds. I have my budgies in a north facing room where they don't get direct sunlight but they indirect sunlight of course. Do you think I should get a UV light or not.
@BirdNerdSophie

@@BirdNerdSophie same! Isn't sufficient if we give them minreal blocks and cuttlebone for their calcium as I read a lack of sunlight doesn't allow vitamin d to be converted into its beneficial form which is related to calcium in the body.

Hey Sophie! Love your videos! I wanted to ask: I have a natural flat perch of apple tree for my cockatiel Rico. The thing is that he pooped on it many times, and although I got the poo immediately, there is some that stays (it's like the wood absorbs it kinda and there is this green like color on the perch on that place where the poo was). I've tried to clean it with hot water but the perch got a scratch on it, like it's going to break. I can't get any f10, because northern parrots when I email them told me that due to England exiting the Europe, they don't send products to my country for now. Do you know any other cleaners and where to get them or if they come to Greece? Thank you!

@BirdNerdSophie
@BirdNerdSophie 4 жыл бұрын
Oh bless him! If he is moulting, then they should come out when his body decides it's time, but I have seen for some clipped birds, it can take a couple of moults for clipped feathers to come out! Make sure he is getting extra protein in his diet to support the new feather growth! 😊💙🦜
