I had a Cal-Sci screen on a bike several years ago and I think they sent care instructions with it. If I remember correctly they advised using a 50/50 mix of water and auto windshield washer fluid. I mix the stuff and use it to this day. I have managed to put a few small scratches in my screen due to not always using a clean cloth, but as far as cleaning, I like the water/washer fluid. I’m sure there are some good products out there, but the washer fluid works and is cheap.

My favorite is Lemon pledge I've been using for years on my (ex)LT and now GTL.

Same. Has wax in it and works well, since Plexus got so frickin' expensive and I can't afford it anymore. Yellerjackets like the smell of pledge, though, so be aware. :D

Plexus works really well but hard to find. It leaves a nice wax finish that helps to repel water. we would use it on small aircraft windshields, helicopters and it did an amazing job! Maybe that’s the market they want to target as they would pay the higher prices. If you have a supplier that has stock, I would buy it, but use it sparingly!

Kirk, thanks for the information, like the tee shirt idea. I have the F4 on my Harley and use the ole stand by Windex.On my Tundra I used Rubbing Alcohol to clean it before the spray. It made a fantastic difference. After a trip I wet a bath towel and lay it across the windshield, it helps loosen the bug guts, also BugSlide helps...

I use "Pledge". Seems to work well on my 25yr old K1200LT windshield.

I have been using Flowgenix for the past couple of years, and it has proven to be highly effective. It got a bubble gum scent and can be utilized to clean and polish the entire motorcycle, including the windshield.

Agree with everything except the 'keep it out of the sun' comment. I have a 2016 BMW C650 maxi-scooter that I bought second hand in March 2018 and it was parked outside in a marina in Los Angeles for a couple of years, most of the time it was parked in full sunlight and I never noticed any deterioration whatsoever to the windshield. I also bought a large can of Plexus back in 2018 and been using it since then, on several motorcycles and I think it's still around 90% full. Yes I also use it on my helmet's visor. DON'T however use it on a pinlock screen on the inside, it will temporarily (almost) dissolve it!

I too have had to move on from plexus. I emailed them about my dismay with their price gouging. They were confused, they didn’t realize my email was a one way conversation. Their excuse was “supply chain issues”. (2024 btw… that excuse don’t play no more)
@jeffshootsstuffАй бұрын
Bah haaa! They jacked up the price in like 2016 and it's only gotten worse since. It used to be all I use but no more. I thought it was bad when it was $15/can but now it's like triple that.

Hi Kirk, how can I get my milky windscreen and wind deflectors back to being see thru again?
@ceesklumperАй бұрын
you my be able to polish it back to clear by using for example Maguiar's plastic polish, they have several 'grades' start with the coursest one and work up to the finer. I've used it on convertible soft-top plastic windows and managed to get hazy back to fully clear.

You can try to buff them out to clear but it may be easier to find some good used ones on ebay and swap them out.

I'm looking on Cal Sci's webpage. Can you share what height and width options you went with? I'm 6'1" and a relatively new K1600GTL owner. I think we have a similar riding style (fast).
@kirksmotorradАй бұрын
I have the standard height wide width and will be buying a standard width this spring for summer riding. I would encourage you to call them and use their suggestions as to which shield you should go with though. Also tell them you watched my video and I sent you!
@Wiz3721Ай бұрын
@@kirksmotorrad Thank you sir. I will do that. Appreciate your videos.

@@Wiz3721 I'm 6'1" with a long torso and ride a GTL with a Sargent seat in the high position. I have the CalSci 2XL wide and it's great, but if you want it super quiet you have to raise the shield and look through it. It's very clear and optically clean so it's not too bad. But with it about an inch up from fully down I get relatively clean air to my helmet. I agree with Kirk's suggestion about calling them however.
