(figure.1) Pencil Tool Settings: Set "Fidelity" to Maximum Smoothness. Check "Fill new pencil strokes" Check "Close paths when ends are within" Type 15 pixels. Leave everything else unchecked. Keyboard Shortcuts: (Shift + Alt) Resize Image (Ctrl + =) zoom in (Ctrl + -) zoom out (Ctrl + Scroll wheel) Move Side to Side (Hold shift + Right Click) Select Multiple Areas (Ctrl + Z) Undo Tools used: Pencil Tool Selection tool Rectangle tool Eyedropper Tool Steps: 1.Import your Image (jpeg,PNG,Tiff,Raw). 2.Resize Image Using (Shift + Alt) and drag to desired size. 3.Lower the Opacity of the image. 4.In the layers pallet, Lock Layer 1. 5.Create New Layer in the layers pallet. 6.Select Pencil tool. 7.Double Click Pencil tool. 8.Set Pencil tool Settings see.(figure.1) then press ok. 9.Swap fill and stroke pallet. 10.Make sure fill is black and stroke is white. 11.Click the stroke pallet "This will move pallet to the front" 12.Select "none" for stroke color underneath the stroke and fill pallet. 13.Click the fill pallet "this will bring the pallet to the front again". 14.Begin Drawing when finished move onto next step. 15.Click the selection tool. 16.Select your entire traced image. 17.While still using selection tool, Click Object. 18.Click Expand. 19.Click Merge on pathfinder pallet. 20.In the layers pallet click on your layer 2 21.Drag Layer 2 to "Create new layer" this will make a copy. 22.Lock "Layer 2 Copy" 23.Click "Layer 2" not "layer 2 copy" 24.Click on Rectangle Tool. 25.Double Click "fill" Pallet 26.Choose a skin tone color 27.Cover your image with the rectangle tool 28.Right click Rectangle 29.Click Arrange 30.Send to back 31.Use the selection tool and select the entire image 32.Click Merge on pathfinder pallet. 33.Right click entire image 34.Click Isolate entire group. 35.Right click outer color of your image. 36.Press Delete. 37.Click outside your workspace to bring back your layers pallet. 38.Click on Layer 2. 39.Click drop down arrow on layer 2. 40.Click drop down arrow again. 41.Lock all layers starting from the bottom. 42.Unlock the first 2 layers. 43.Close layer 2 drop down arrow back up. 44.Click on lips, ears, etc. Isolate select group and choose color. 45.Select entire image with selection tool. 46.Click edit 47.Edit colors 48.Adjust color balance 49.Check preview 50.Balance color to taste. 51.Make a new layer underneath layer 2 copy 52.This will be your Shadows 53.Make 2 more 1 for Mids and another for highlights. 54.Work from dark to light 55.Contouring face features, curves, etc. 56.When finished unlock all color layers in your layers pallet. 57.Select entire image 58.Click edit 59.Color edit 60.Color with preset, Color harmony, Change auto to "all" in recolor artwork pallet. when I sent the color rectangle to back and then merge all the linework and then isolate the group when I delete the color box the colors are left in the eyes only !!

Thanks for doing this.. didn't think i could do this with a mouse and you keep making it simpler & more efficient with these tutorials man. i prefer this way above using a brush with the mouse, this makes it easier to create natural/raw shapes.

Yes that's happened to me too Before you isolate, make sure that you r selected the color and the character too, the characters disappear because you select the color only
