Really really useful video for me, old hands and stiff neck mean a lot of traditional knife holds are awkward. Really nice to see techniques I've been using, only far more evolved. Picked up a shed load of useful techniques here, thanks Zed 👍🤗

Firstly, appreciate the work you're doing.. Also.. a big thumbs up for Sam.. I was wondering whether anyone dared to skip to minute 12 where the actual spoon carving started..?! Doubt it.. :D Keep it up..
@Zedoutdoors
@Zedoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I did reconsider adding that chair segment into the video, but it's a huge part of what Sam does and I also gave the option to skipping it if folk wanted to fovus on just the spoon carving part. Sincerely appreciate your kind words and for watching Daniel ~Peace~

The design of this spoon looks stunning! I just followed along with the video to carve my own version of it...I really struggle going with the grain in the bowl it doesn't feel smooth and ends up tearing out wood. Any tips / reasons for this? My spoon knife is not as sharp as it should be for sure, but feels smooth across the grain.
@Zedoutdoors
@Zedoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex forstly thank you for your kind words and for watching, reg going with the grain it is first advised that you sharpen your spoon knife, I have detailed tutorials covering that I have litsed here - zedoutdoors.com/video-tutorials Secondly, after sharpening your spoon knife you want to take very shallow and cleaner cuts when going with the grain ~Peace~

Can You explain baking of the spoons?
@Zedoutdoors
@Zedoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruno baking spoons refers to placing the spoons in an oven for a certain amount of time, the heat in the oven essentially 'bakes' the spoon i.e. dries it out and depending on the type of wood a discolouration occurs ~Peace~
@brunovrancic8330
@brunovrancic8330 4 жыл бұрын
@@Zedoutdoors Yes, Zed, but can someone explain the procedure, benefits...
@daniel_miller
@daniel_miller 4 жыл бұрын
@@brunovrancic8330 The benefits are simply fast dryng/curing and darkening/oxidizing the surface of the wood. The process: put it in the oven at the lowest possible setting and let it bake for 10 minutes. Check it and if you want it darker in color, let it go for for another 10. It is all about experimenting because every oven and every piece of wood is different, so you results will vary.
