Last year we used a plastic tub to catch the juice from the press. It was a bit short and YUCK it was made of plastic. So I'm carving a trough from a log. The techniques you see here you can use to make all manner of wooden things. Bowls, troughs, tubs or even cups and jugs. So instead of instead of using plastic bowls or plates you can easily make them out of wood. I'd call this one medium in size but you can make them as big or as small as you like.
I produce videos on a bunch of topics from bees to prospecting and a stack of stuff in between but many of them show off the use of traditional vintage tools. If you see a tool that you would like for your own I probably won't sell you mine but I may have another in stock or I can get one from France, Germany, Japan or wherever. I make little bit of money from selling tools but mostly I just like to share them and share how to use them.

Yeah wasn't expecting a GPS reference. My side of town is good cause that will make it easier to get to. So will this be a commercial endeavour? Hobby that pays? or just for fun?

Would putting your handle and tool in a bucket of water occasional help by swelling the wood? I do that with my axe and block buster.

Matt Keen Good question. It helps temporarily but if you leave it in the water for just a few seconds too long the wood swells so much that it compresses and destroys the fibers of the wood. Then it dries and its worse. What i did was fitted a new wedge that was a puffteenth thicker Ann's that's done the job nicely.

How did it work out in the long run? How does it hold water? Thinking about doing this for a water trough for our livestock

This is Stuart replying from my prospecting channel. Well there is another video in that. It worked really well and I think there are some vids on Stuart Chignell with us using the trough for at least one pressing. However, I left it out in the sun for a few months after using it and it dried out too much and cracked. So if we do a pressing this season (Marchish) then I'll be doing a video on Chestnut_nag to show how I've repaired it.

Interesting, so if kept wet think it would hold water well long term?

@@JacobvsRex Well if I hadn't left it out in full sun it would have been fine kept dry in the shed. Probably. I've got bowls and dough troughs that have lasted for ages.
