Curious if the ink bleeds and that's why you dremelled? Could you have sealed the skull then skipped the dremel? Great job. Looking to do this with my skull but I'm nervous.
@RavensCraftyNest6 ай бұрын
Hi Sometimes the ink does bleed. The carving also gives a complete other look for me personally. I did a skull a few years ago only with inks (did not seal it) but I did not like it without the carving. I haven't tried sealing but I enjoy the carving so I never really thought of doing it that way. Don't be nervous I know you will do an amazing job on your skull♥️

Beautiful! What brand inks do you use and what are the 2 colors you are working with?
@RavensCraftyNest6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much♥️ The brand inks I used is daler & Rowney. I used raw umber and burnt sienna for the brown. I hope this helps☺️

This is pretty artsy! Would never have thought of sth like this, brilliant work! But I guess you need to be able to work with bones very closely and touch them. Would be interesting to see how to mould a skull from other materials too. Thanks for sharing. :)
@RavensCraftyNest4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this lovely comment! ❤️ Yes the cleaning part is always the worst when working with a skull, aswell as the carving (the smell is awful) I haven't thought of a mould.. Will look into that. Stay safe❤️🤗
@SarahRabenhertz4 жыл бұрын
@@RavensCraftyNest I can imagine the part about the smell. Depending on the size, maybe the skull might be cleaned with a bath in... that stuff you clean braces or your dishwasher with or vinegar? That has me thinking
@RavensCraftyNest4 жыл бұрын
When I have a clean skull without meat on it I just scrub it with dishwasher soap and a toothbrush to get the dirt off. Then when it is dry I apply bleach on the skull and leave it for a few hours to whiten it. Then rinse with water and wash off all the bleach. The smelly and disgusting part comes in with the skulls that still has meat on and then the dust when carving.

Hey there! 😊 I am a HUGE fan of skull decor too and your project is amazing! Beautiful work❤Thank you for sharing and demonstrating your amazing talent. I have tried something like this in the past and was wondering if you have any suggestions for dealing with the “smell” while carving? And is your skull was damp or bone dry? Not sure if it varies depending on the type of skull or if its just me, but that certainly limited me from exploring more of this technique.
@RavensCraftyNest2 жыл бұрын
Hiiii! Thank you so much. I am so glad you like my work. For the smell I don't think anything can take that away, or not that I know of.🤣 I use a dust mask so that i dont inhale too much of the bone "dust". The skulls I use is bone dry. I haven't worked on an damp bone yet. I would say don't stress about the smell although it is awful. The end result is always worth it as you know working on your own skulls. Would love to see your work❤️❤️🤗

@@RavensCraftyNest Thank you for the in depth reply! I feel better knowing its not just me 😊 I was hoping you had a special skull carving secret cause I’d love to try it out again. The skulls I tried were bone dry as well, but after seeing your video, it crossed my mind how I use water to drill through porcelain to eliminate the dust. So now Im wondering if that concept could help with carving skulls. Maybe ill give it a try again but in the mean time feel free to let me know if you happen learn anything new. Glad to see the ❤️For Decorating Skulls! Here is a link to my “non-carved” skull decor ideas, kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGrUd3qwgpKefrs . Not sure if it works here, but its on my channel too! Thanks again for sharing your awesome skull skills! 🥰

I wish I had a secret. That would have been a lot easier.. I am sure going to try the water technique you are talking about.. I am surely going to check out your channel. Thank you for posting the link🤗 If I do get a method that works better I will let you know😊😊.

I’m not artistic when it comes to free hand drawing. Are there stencils available
@RavensCraftyNest3 ай бұрын
I am honestly not sure. You can Google patterns and trace it of but there is stencils at art stores. I'm not sure what they have available but maybe there will be available in something similar♥️

What kind of paint did you use for the carved part?
@RavensCraftyNest3 жыл бұрын
Hi I only used acrylic inks. The light part on the skull I added water. In the carved parts I used the acrylic ink without diluting it.

Hi! Yes it is rather difficult to get cow skulls. They are the best to work on. I would have definitely contacted you for skull supply, but I live in South Africa so unfortunately it won't be possible for me. But thanks so much 🤗🤗

hi i have unpolished steer horns can i paint them with any paint
@RavensCraftyNest3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I would first sand the horn a little bit. Personally I would only use spraypaint on a horn.
