7 months... I've definitely had projects that get set aside for long times. Mine usually isn't because of life getting in the way so much as I'm either distracted by something else (squirrel!) or most often, hit a part that was frustrating me or I was stuck, so started a different project as I always have more than I'll ever be able to finish in my lifetime. All that being said, I'm working on finishing more, even if I don't think it's 'complete' or the way I wanted it.

I've always hated intarsia scroll saw work. But you made that look fun. But I love to do silhouette type work. That's my happy place!

Life happens. It's all good to stop and come back to projects later. Thats a lot of tedious work but it's worth it. It looks great. Keep making and stay awesome.

This is always mind boggling! I've tried scroll saw projects several times... always get frustrated. But your videos always make me want to try again. If for no other reason to force myself to learn and be patient.

When you were talking about that little bit of difference in thickness, my mind automatically heard that line from the movie Waiting: "the difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is that little bit extra" 😂

Just found you today. Awesome work, ive been needing a reason to buy a scroll saw. This is it. What is the genre of art you are searching for? Or maybe the artist? I love the shading/hard outlines. Ive found a few good things, but all of your selections of art are awesome. Thanks for these vids.

I look for comic book art because it often has heavy black lines. Or I'll find an artist I recognize who uses shadow like Michael Cho. Otherwise, I look for something similar to clipart or even tattoo art. You sort of know it when you see it.

Oddly, watching this video made me get up and start painting on a portrait I’ve been avoiding all morning (deadline impending) instead of walking over to my woodworking shop. One thing … not saying you should definitely do this but for some reason I wanted the soles of his feet to be slightly angled topographically to push the illusion. Not sure why. May kinda feel like breaking the fourth wall … I just never know where to go with scroll saw work because it’s 2D…but it’s not… So when do the surface angles start and when do they end?? And then once it’s going that direction it’s relief sculpture which is such a weird in-between as well. So, not sure how far you’d want to push that if you started…could be a black hole. But I think anybody that makes images possibly has that kind of tension going on maybe. (Which makes it wonderfully interesting.) Perhaps that’s why I got up and started painting (maybe-mostly-also because I don’t own a scroll saw)… So what I’m saying is: Wonderful video! Inspired me to get off my butt. Definitely Subscribed. And hoping for more.

How do you determine which negative lines to keep for placement, and which negative lines it is okay to obliterate?
@NewtonMakesArt
@NewtonMakesArt Жыл бұрын
Good question. I play with the image on the computer to make sure I have the line thickness and negative space how I like it. I can make dark areas thicker or thinner, see what I prefer, then start the project.
