What I have found in jumping a dirt bike. It a good idea to tighten up the rebound so there is less deflection from the springs and shocks.

I'm old and tend to sit on all jumps. I kind of use that if I ever come up short. Mid-air with my butt still on the saddle and legs coiled, just before the landing and I mean JUST before the landing I uncoil and thrust the bike into the landing with my legs (WHHOOMP!) making it absorb the brunt of it. It's a horrific thing to do to the bike but hey it can take it and I can't. The rebound bounce isn't too bad either because while the bike is rebounding my mass is coming down at the same time to meet it. Everything gets soaked up.

Question, I have had relatively fast people tell me when you case a jump you should not be on toes so you don't blow your ankles out, is that true?

What does “case” a jump mean? I thought it meant that you landed incorrectly.
@TheMxFactory5 жыл бұрын
It means to come up short, as in not jumping to the proper area of the landing, which is the backside of the landing.
@Lust175 жыл бұрын
Stephen Mosca it means u don’t fully clear a jump u land on the next hump of the jump or close to it

I am currently sitting here watching this vid with a broken left ankle (3 places) I cased a 50' double, I had proper foot placement (balls of feet) and nice tech 7 boots but I folded my toes to my shins!!! I never came off the bike and it only broke one ankle even though both saw the same energy loads. I keep trying to figure out what happened!!!??? maybe I'm just getting too old lol. Anyways love the vids but wish this one came out sooner hahahaha

"There are only 2 ways to place your feet on the footpegs, either on the balls of the feet or on the arches. The most common way is on the arches. Just check the bottoms of your boots. I’ll tell you right up front that being comfortable riding on the balls of the feet takes a lot of practice. But when a rider does become comfortable with this technique there are three benefits to it. # 1 you have more body travel, #2 you won’t hit the shifter or rear brake by accident and #3 you won’t get your feet ripped off the foot pegs from your toe hitting the dirt. As I said, for this technique to become natural its takes a lot of the correct type of practice. So don’t throw it out the window if you really want to learn the correct way. It’s kind of like down hill skiing. It’s easier to keep your feet farther apart when you are a beginner but the pros keep their skis closer together. One place the pros are always on the balls of their feet is through the whoops. If it can be done through the whoops it can be done anywhere on the track. The only acceptation is if you're going to land hard from a jump or even case a jump. In this case you would want to be on the arches of your feet so you don't sprain your ankles. Just make sure you have your toes pointed out a little so you don't hit the shifter or rear brake by accident. It all comes with knowing the correct techniques and a lot of quality practice time. Have you checked the bottoms of your boots lately? www.gsmxs.com " -Gary Semics

to avoid broken ankles you need stay on the arches of your foot, not on the balls of your foot - during have landing - is it true?
