Always fill mixer with water first, and then half of your sand, (while it’s mixing!) then all of your cement, (again, while mixing!) then the remainder of your sand and water until right consistency. That way you won’t have all dry mix at the back of your mixer. Just a tip for the future 😃👍🏽

How deep is the trench?
@MrSHAUNE554 жыл бұрын
Great video, I have to do this for my concrete block shed. Do you have to pour all the concrete for the foundations in one day, or can you do it over a few days? I've used a calculator and I need 1.97 cubic feet.
@OnlineHousehusband4 жыл бұрын
You mean 1.97 cubic metres? Rule of thumb is anything over 1 cublic metre you're better off ordering it. The time and quantity of mixes in a mixer would take far too long. Therefore if you order it you'll easily cast i one day.
@MrSHAUNE554 жыл бұрын
@@OnlineHousehusband Yes, sorry cubic metres. Thanks for the reply, I was toying with ordering it but now that is what I will do, cheers.

Hi Paul, I'm just on with my garden shed as well, I've had to go down a lot deeper due to I'm going to build my shed out of stone and brick with a slate roof, I'm also recording my progress on KZbin. Jason

@@jasonparker333 how big was your shed. I need to know how deep and wide foundation for a 6m length and 3m wide would need,also how high to then fill them
@jasonparker3333 жыл бұрын
@@justinhaydn Hi Justin, My shed is 12 ft x 10 ft and approx. 10 feet tall. From memory, I went down about 1.5 mtrs then laid about 8 inch of concret with 10mm steel bar to act as reinforcemnet, I then laid approx. 600 old red engineering bricks on the concrete and then started to build on that with the concrete block and natural stone, all my videos show what I did :-), for the width of the trench I calculated how wide the walls would be and made a drawing then I drew a line from each corner of teh bottom of teh wall at 45 deg down to the required thickness and then measured that, again from Memory I think it was about 24 inches wide or 3 red bricks wide, (end to end) cant remember. I think I just googled at the time I was doing it and maybe found a website with a foundation calculator. Hope this helps. Jason

OK not to have any rebar? Also what depth did you use?
@OnlineHousehusband3 жыл бұрын
No Rebar needed, this is only holding a 4 course high single skin perimeter wall with a cast concrete centre, no real weight. I can't remember the exact depth but not much. Thanks for checking out the video.

not deep enough and no rebar.please viewers dont follow this.this footing is probably ok for shed but thats all.
@OnlineHousehusband7 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, thanks for your mis leading comment. Any footing will vary based on, building weight / load bearing properties / stories and should be calculated on a job by job basis along side a structural engineers report. Completely agree, steel / rebar cages are required when more weight is involved. It is only holding up a 14 x 10 "TIMBER" summer house / shed.....TIMBER i.e minimal weight. I think you're getting slightly confused and I am in agreement with you, if there were substantial weight then yes deeper footings with steel rebar cages would be required. Before getting keyboard happy just think about what your typing.

Paul Marsh hi Paul thanks for your reply.didnt realise at the beginning of the video that it was for a shed.i have myself always in all cases made foundations deeper because you never know who builds on it after the shed has gone.for example a garage in blocks etc.as a practice I have always worked this way.i believe stronger is always better.hope I didn't come across too carefree with my statements.good luck with all your future projects.thanks again.

No problem Gary. I get your point for future proofing. I have changed the title of the video to save any future confusion. Thanks for checking it out though.

Paul Marsh hey Paul, what a pleasant and informative response you gave. Will be taking your advice. I too whenever I build anything in or around our home always go for overkill as it’s the people who come after you who may assume things unwisely.
