Really cool, although. Use Fire clay in the cement mix to greatly improve resistance to the heat. Moisten the hardened cement for the first few days to harden it and be sure allow it to cure / harden for 21 to 28 days prior to the first firing-and start with small fire-increasing it gradually.
@spiritseeker2831 Жыл бұрын
i was thinking about that, can you add some powder fireclay or what exact product were you thinking, trying to save some money by making instead of buying ty?
@ryanyamada2645 Жыл бұрын
Lots of exploding cement comments on here and it depends solely on the cement used. If you use regular cement, then it will likely crack or possibly explode if the cement was wet. However there are cements made for this type of application. They are usually called high heat furnace or high temperature refractory cements. Those types of cement are non porous and can withstand direct flame without cracking or exploding. Provided you set (vibrate the concrete) and cure them correctly to avoid air pockets. The non porous nature of these types of cements, will prevent moisture from absorbing into the cement and causing catastrophic explosions to occur. Basically use all products for what they were intended for and read the product instructions to make sure you are using it correctly.
@ziokam1 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering what can be added or removed if you are working with normal cement to avoid explosions, thanks buddy for the sound advice
@jpopelish Жыл бұрын
You can greatly improve the strength of the hardened concrete by keeping it damp for a month or so, after it sets. Cement does not harden by drying, but by reacting with water. Longer reaction time = more strength.
@chrispatriot Жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. Because I needed a great little camping stove, and this just went into my favorites. But since it'll be slammed into my storage along with all my other camping gear, the stronger it is, the better it is.... :)

Several people have requested a material list in the description, which is a great idea. What is the oil in the beginning? What type of cement mix to buy to withstand high temperatures? What is the green and white objects placed in the bucket? This would be good info to have to make this more of a "how to" video and less of a "watch me make" If you are not going to provide a materials list, then just change the title of the video to Watch Me Cast a Stove From A Paint Bucket"
@Logiwonk2 жыл бұрын
If I had to guess - oil is probably old motor oil, white object is packing Styrofoam, green is that material that florists use to hold flower arrangements. It looks like most of the materials are repurposed/salvaged waste products. Some info I found on mixing cement for stoves: www.traditionaloven.com/tutorials/concrete.html#:~:text=Calcium%20Aluminate%20cement%20and%20Lime,cement%20replaced%20with%20the%20lime.
@jamesgray1432 жыл бұрын
Yes!!!!
@acrobata2 жыл бұрын
The white material seems to be simple styrofoam. The green one, i think, is that kind os sponge used in fake flowers arrangements. The oil is any oil, even already burnt, to release the bucket. The cement mix...is one capable of withstand high temperatures (ask guidance to a salesman in your area). Give a list is cool, but the video is very intuitive.

To increase the concrete strength and to minimise moisture in the concrete, use a vibrating saw ( jigsaw, sabresaw, multitool etc) without a blade, on the outside of the bucket to vibrate the mix immediately after filling the bullet. Having said that, this type of fire is VERY dangerous, and can explode due to the moisture in it expanding as it heats.
@rodbuck19862 жыл бұрын
You have to use a type of cement called”Refractory cement” for this type of stove.Regular cement can not withstand the heat and will crack.Can’t believe he would put that much work into this project and not know this.Otherwise a great build.

@MrBoon We may need to know how to make these stoves someday.
Very Cool. The human's ingenuity never ceases to amaze! If I may, one thing I might've done, is put "more foam at the bottom, and put it to one edge. The reason being, it would be the size of a small metal drawer/tray, that could be easily removed for the ashes... ;)

Make sure you use heat resistant cements, otherwise you face the risk of the cement exploding due to the moisture trapped in regular concrete
@ollieox91812 жыл бұрын
Okay, people, be wary of this thing: chances are, you'll keep it outdoors. That means it will get wet. Concrete absorbs moisture like a sponge. So when you fire it up, the moisture inside turns to steam and there's a better-than-average chance it will blow up like a bomb. You could get hurt. Seriously hurt. The guy who made this video knows this - if not, he certainly should. And there should be some warning about it.

Thank you for this video. Subscribed. Looks like a neat idea but the other posters are correct: You need refractory cement, and you need to keep it wet for four weeks so that the chemical reaction can proceed, for maximum strength. Also, after a month of being kept wet, you need to fire it several times with a very small fire so that any remnant moisture can be driven off.

He poured on the lighter fluid and let it soak in to the wood. It also sunk In to the pavement. Luckily he went into the house when it blew. It blue several holes in the concrete and if he had been out there he could have lost the dial or a finger or whatever. Luckily the baby and I were in the house.
