I usually cast with the lead by the bottom eye and I cast anywhere between 80-100 yards also you don’t need the thumb the spool side to side. You keep your thumb on one spot of the reel or if can thumb the side of the spool

i usually cast on the bottom eye and have the tension knob fairly loose and i can cast about 150 to 170 yards and im only 5'7

You don’t really have to move your thumb as much you can leave it on the edge of your spool 🤙🏽

It takes practice... don't go for distance at first,, distance will come. Try thumbing the side of the spool instead of the line. SAves from burning your thumb. Also try getting a thumb guard for archery, it saves your thumb if thumbing the line... practice practice practice Goodluck bruddah
