Thanks James and Melinda for being such great hosts for my stay last night. I enjoyed our conversation yesterday and our conversation over breakfast this morning. Looking forward to my next trip over and I’ll definitely stay over with you again. The house and grounds are fantastic and the room was very nice. Melinda I’m sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye because I left well you were at Zumba.

So true about the "banana " talk. I had a 5yr stretch here in the Philippines with an inlaw nephew (732K pesos worth) that finally ended up with me banning all contact with him. Appreciation--Anticipation-Expectation-Entitlement-DEPENDENCY... going on 8yrs now & blessed to be in the Philippines.

You ever try using ACC blocks they’re much better than a hollow block. They don’t crumble when you drop them. They don’t break apart when you drop them they stay in tech their light weight and they’re very efficient.

I know some of the different companies were having adhesive problems with their ACC blocks

Y'all are getting much cooler weather than what we're having up north, on Luzon (Pampanga). Greg and Wilma, in Dauin keep sending me screenshots of the weather. 🥵 We're still in the upper 80's to lower 90's here, and upper 70's at night. Y'all will probably get some of the rain in this Tropical Depression that's heading for Mindanao, and Visayas in a day or so?

My ex wife had a giant bearded clam. Oh my soul it smelled terrible, made my eyes water. Ironically she left cause she was sick of me crying all the time. I can still smell it, was like an old rubber boot, and rancid catfish smell. Looked like Willy Nelson with his teeth out. Hahaha

Do you not require expansion joints in the cast wall?
@TexasFilipino19 күн бұрын
You know this is a tropical environment with pretty consistent temps year round. Expansion is the expansion and contraction in temp and moisture conditions

James could you show how your wall forms are attached to the outside edge of the deck? Is there a ledge of the deck left or are the forms flat to the sides of the deck
@TexasFilipino19 күн бұрын
We hang the inside one first then when you put the outside one up you slide the bolts thru and it's self supporting. sometime we will add a 2x2 across the bottom if needed for support.

James, when you’re casting the walls is it good to just tamp on one side like you were doing or do you need to tamp both sides to make the aggregate settle and be smooth?

Starkist it the brand you were thinking of. GV tuna is sourced from Thailand. Century tuna has different grades. Buy only the top grade chunks in water (the red label, not the flakes and never in oil) and it is at par with the best tuna brands in the US. Actually here in General Santos we can buy the raw, frozen sashimi for same price as canned. It is extremely healthy and is actually brain food. Suggest you partake of Dr. Eric Berg's channel. Hey today I was running up a mountain here. I am older than you (59). If you want to live long, you need to be more athletic. No way around it.

I have seen this done with steel casting frames that can be reused. Obviously would not make any sense for a one-off use. Would need to be reused for making many copies of the same structure, such as in a subdivision. No disrespect, but the concrete you are putting into those walls contains far too much water. The concrete will not be as strong. You should be mixing that into a paste-like consistency employing a mechanical mixer, not some locals mixing it with shovels.
@Alexander_Evans18 күн бұрын
He's said before that he started off in the beginning telling his workers to make it with less water like we do in the US, but in the end, the workers knew best and knew how fast the moisture dries up in the tropical heat. I think he mentioned it didn't flow down into the forms as well when it was the "correct" water amount. I may be mistaken though, just remember him saying something along those lines. Either way, it's stronger than most in the PH anyways, I don't doubt that concrete could handle most of what will be thrown at it for years to come.
@Anonymint-vj7bt18 күн бұрын
@@Alexander_Evans I think that’s maybe why we employ "pumped" concrete in the USA for filling up concrete forms? Well I have messed around with concrete in the Philippines and indeed you would have to be on point in terms of massaging it down into the forms with a steel rod perhaps. Also could be if he is attempting to pour the entire vertical 8‘ wall in one go, instead of using half-height forms or something. IOW, I bet there is a way to do it with concrete paste, but probably not convenient nor pragmatic in his situation. Yeah surely better than hollow block construction regardless.
