It was a shipping container castle.... because anyone can get shipping containers, and anyone can find rocks. But He doesn't need that functionality and hes got enough money to stop doing things the cheap way. The whole reason people were using shipping containers was really popular in 05-08 with the last housing bubble. and if you look close enough, you see shipping container homes popping up again. I wonder why? the answer is in the SP case shiller housing index nationwide.

As a civil engineer the only thing I'd say is be a little careful how much you vibrate the concrete. Vibrating it too much can cause the aggregate to sink to the bottom. Not that it matters with how overbuilt this appears to be. Nice work Andrew!
@einfelder8262Ай бұрын
I am no engineer, but definitely overuse of the vibrator, not to mention the watery concrete from the first load - far too wet. The excessive vibration is what caused the formwork to collapse - it might have held otherwise.

I love and watch every video that Andrew produces. No "concrete expert" here at all; but I work for guys that do a lot of concrete. Two "humble" suggestions to make life easier for a formed slab like this: (1) Right before the pour, spray all insides of the wooden formwork with WD-40. It makes removing the forms much better. Less pull-off of rocks and less "rubbing it out" (IYKYK lol). And, if you do that and your forms are properly constructed, (2) Take a battery sawzall, remove the blade, and vibrate the guard along the outside edges of the forms, lightly (!). Just run it along the forms up and down w/o too much pressure before you bull float and you will see the cream come to the top on the sides. And the vibrations along the entire frame of the form move inward and settle everything. Then tamp it and finish it. Cheers and keep it up!
@iconocladАй бұрын
When my house was built the concreter painted the forms with black oil. I believe this was actually used motor oil. He probably gets it from some mechanic he knows. Way cheaper than WD-40.

That Kubota excavator has probably seen more action than most construction sites combined-great job keeping it alive! 💪

Andrew check out surplus center for seats and hydro hoses. Way cheap we get them there all the time.

Thoroughly enjoy watching you employ so many professional skills in *ALL YOU DO*, Andy! Oh to be *just* 35 years younger! I wish there was KZbin back when I owned my landscape and lawncare company! Besides just different ways of doing things - the levels of inspiration by watching folks like you create, build and mastercraft these projects is so cool! Even if now, only a spectator! I can't wait to see what you do with your new castle! By the way, I was curious if you were going to bore into that rock wall and create a kickass *SAFE ROOM* for food, weapons, ammo storage + bunks, air filtration and water/waste, etc. What with our current state of affairs, that sounds like it would be a nice plan to have! You certainly live in a great spot for safety's sake!

That special tool you used on the seat, covered in blue, I used a chain and gear tool like that in late 70's, works good for awhile. You are quite astute on your concrete plans, well done as always Andrew great job. Enjoyed the tutorials.

Andrew the way you calculate your concrete is spot on . Take the average in depth and round it up. I haven’t yet seen the final result but I think you’re right 👍🏾🇦🇺

Such a great video, I watched it twice! Appreciate your calm demeanor, even during the blow out lol. Of course it’s a bummer, but as long as it’s not a loss in the volume of concrete needed to complete it!

@@AndrewCamarata Although you initially describe it as small aesthetic work have actually talked about the expansion of the relatively large building on the left side near the mountain and therefore of structural modification so more complex work than what seems to be at the beginning of the video and let's add that you will probably have to move electrical entrance whose storyteller is inside the enlargement area so you could maybe make a technical explanation video

I think I have been watching your videos for nearly 8 years now. I remember you adding the tower on the side and not having anything but a big trampoline on the deck above the workshop area. I look forward to see how this addition to the container castle goes!
