I too am new to loom knitting & this was a huge help. I did make an adjustment to the way I pull the loops off! I'm doing an afghan & holding the loop just got too long so instead of pulling it up, I pull it out to the side & bring the loop over just before the slack is out. Way faster, less confusing & more comfortable for me & 3 + yards of yarn did not get tangled once. Loved this technique.
@LoomingCraftyFiberArts Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, are you doing this technique each row? Kinds sounds like you are. You don't have to do this technique for each row. You only do this technique for the cast on row. The rest of your pattern you wrap the pegs as you normally would. At the end of the video I mention after the cast you wrap as normal. I am sorry if I misunderstood what you asked previously, but if you are wrapping normally after the cast on row you shouldn't have a issue with extra yarn. If you still need help you are welcome to record what you're doing in a small clip on your phone and email it to me at lcfiberarts@gmail.com so I can look at it closer. I would need to see how you are wrapping and a good view of where you're working on your loom. I know being new there's a lot of terminology to remember and techniques, stitches and such. I want to help you be successful. Since you are still having issues with excess yarn, if you can send me a video clip so I can see what is going on to help. 🙂

Please help, have followed your video for Figure of 8 cast on and thereafter wrapped yarn as before and tried knitting the same Figure of 8 stitch. Stitches were very loose and does not look as compared to pictures I see on the web. What yarn must one use for loom knit projects, is it one has to use only Chunky yarn. I live in Mumbai, India, very keen to learn looming.
@LoomingCraftyFiberArts9 ай бұрын
You need to know the gauge of your loom. You can figure this by measuring from center of one peg to center of a peg next to it. This will give you the gauge. If your measurement is ⅝ then you will need to use a #5 Bulky yarn or a #6 Super Bulky yarn. If you're gauge measures ½ then you can use a #4 worsted or a #5 Bulky yarn. If your gauge is ¾ then you need to use a #6 Super Bulky yarn or a #7 Jumbo yarn. So, knowing your loom gauge is very important to match your yarn weight to.

I’m new to loom knitting and I normally crochet. Hoping someone can give me further advice bc I got them tight just like in the video, but then the next round was loose again, where as hers were still tight. My first round stayed nice and tight but it’s every round following that are loose. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!
@LoomingCraftyFiberArts Жыл бұрын
There could be a few factors that I can think of right off. Is your loom fixed or adjustable between the rakes? If it is fixed meaning the distance between rakes can't be changed you may be using the wrong weight of yarn for the gauge of loom you are using. For instance: If you are using a 4 weight yarn on a fixed 5/8 gauge double rake loom your stitches are going to be too large and too loose. So, check your loom gauge by measuring from center of one peg to the center of the one next to it. Then you need to make sure you are using the correct weight of yarn for your particular loom. If your loom is adjustable, meaning there is a wedge or spacers to allow distance to be changed between your rakes you may need to bring them closer together for smaller and tighter stitches. Also, even If the rakes are adjustable you still need to know the gauge and correct weight of yarn to use for that gauge. Something else to remember. The rows after your cast on row aren't going to be as tight as the cast on in the video. Another issue that you could be having is tension. You could be wrapping too loose.

So if you start with the figure 8 you have to make the figure 8 each row after? You can switch to going around with a flat stitch or knit stitch etc?
@LoomingCraftyFiberArts Жыл бұрын
Hi, Kerry! Thank you for your question. The example I have shown in this tutorial is for Double knitting. With Double knitting you always work wrapping your yarn back and forth between the pegs as demonstrated. With that said, there are many double-knit stitches to choose from when double knitting. If you do choose a different double knit stitch such as the box stitch or stockinette stitch ( just a couple of examples ) you can still use the Double knit Fig 8 cast-on and then your first row you can start your other desired double knit stitch pattern or continue with the double knit Fig 8. Now, when you flat or single knit you are working from right to left or left to right depending on which is your dominant hand then turning at your last peg and knitting back to your first peg on only one straight loom ( or rake ) instead of two. You can also flat or single knit on a round or oblong loom as long as you don't connect your first and last pegs which would make a tube if you did connect them. Also, there is a Flat or single knit Fig 8 stitch to be worked as a flat or single panel. It can be confusing because I have demonstrated the Double knit Fig 8 stitch in this tutorial. I hope this clarifies your question. Here is a video that may also help by KB looms. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmbSY2xsfrygeLs *** Flat or Single knit may be used interchangeably in different tutorials.

@LoomingCraftyFiberArts2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you are using a #4 medium weight yarn you will need to use a loom with the appropriate gauge. For a #4 yarn a 1/2 gauge, 7/16 gauge or 3/8 gauge works best. A 3/8 gauge will give you a tighter stitch which you may fine more uncomfortable so a 1/2 or 7/16 you should find more suitable where the stitches won't be so tight. You can also look for yarn blends that would be more skin friendly.

Hello new loom learner here, thanks for sharing ! I do have a question…. Why does the center of the loom get tighter then the ends, am I doing something’s wrong ?
@LoomingCraftyFiberArts3 жыл бұрын
As you move toward the center of the loom your stitches can naturally get a little tighter. Make sure you aren't wrapping your pegs too tight as you go further down your loom and if you can try and keep your loops halfway up your pegs and not right at the base I find that helps too. I have a video that explains why you shouldn't keep your loops at the base of the pegs. I'll see if I can find it and post it back here. Also, being a new loomer it takes practice to learn how to keep your wrapping pegs tension more even. It will come. Just keep practicing.
