Great video. Very helpful. I'd offe 8:38 r one suggestion. For these casting tutorials, consider using a light colored rod to create a visual contrast from the water. Might make it a little easier to visualize your rod movements.

Now I know why I'm having such a hard time casting streamers with floating line. Thanks Kelly.

Great information Kelly, thank you. Caught my first river streamer fish last week doing all your No No’s. Now I know why it felt a lot harder than it should’ve been. Do the same rules apply using interchangeable tips?

Good morning sir! I’m a new subscriber and wanted to say I love your channel and your no nonsense approach. I live in Arkansas and fish the Little red river and spring river. I was curious what weight rod you’d recommend for throwing a fast sinking line for moderately sized streamers?

Appreciate the support. 6 for wading, 7 for boat fishing.

Notice you do not have very much of a D loop before you roll cast , does this not hamper your roll cast .

Roll casting should be the first fly casting method taught, lots of time would be saved in the learning process.

I'm guilty of shooting the line, letting go of the line to obtain distance, and correct it does leave you extremely badly set up, to begin the fly retrieve having completed a cast. In fact I'm so programmed 'not' to hold the line, that I didn't even realize I did it. And yeah, nine times out of ten the line wraps around a rod butt, a reel, a rod ring, a belt buckle on your waders, around an arm, a leg or a wading stick. And yeah, with retrieved fly tactics this is almost a kiss of death, as you use up most of the best time when the fly is in the water, not even paying attention. But hey, I still try to convince myself 'I won' by managing to squeeze out an additional five or ten yards distance (it's a bad side effect of paying attention to too many casting championships over decades). And the amount to de-programming now to undo this instinct, as I said is no laughing matter. But struggle one must.
