My older cat is fine with the tree. She only sleeps at the skirt . This is my kittens first Christmas, so they were very excited and My tactics for them to not let them destroy the decorations was that I let them smell and play with the decorations and tree before pulling them up. It seems to work. Their curiosity was satisfied and let ornaments at their disposal to play with.

My cat has kinda gone "berserkers" over our tree this year, so we will try the citrus tips and maybe the tin foil tip! He thinks we got the tree for him. Thanks for the ideas.

I have a good kitty, he sits under my tree like a fuzzy present every year. He was a rescue so I don't know what his background is before I found him. He is more than grateful to just sit and enjoy the lights thankfully! He makes great Christmas card photos as well since he's not causing trouble, just being cute 😸

About four years ago I had gotten very fed up with my kitty attacking the Christmas tree so I got a bright idea!! I went to our local craft store and I found a pint size Christmas tree for my kitty. I then went to the dollar store and I bought 2 strands for mini lights, Christmas bulbs (red), green medium sized bells, tiny gold bells, mini pinecones a tree topper ,hooks and batteries for the lights..I decorated the pint size tree. My kitty sat by me watching intently..I put his tree on the coffee table..He was besides himself!! He jumped on the coffee table walked around his tree rubbing up against it proudly, tapped the red Christmas bulbs knocking a couple off..I put them back on his tree then turned on his tree lights..I was SOO cute ! He laid down and was in a trance just staring at his tree… He is now11years old and I fixed his tree again and this year put in on the living room floor on a red placemat..At night I turn his tree lights on and he lays by his little tree taps his little bulbs on the tree and stares at his lit tree.. This move on my part has really worked for me!! Hopefully, it will work for anyone who try’s this.. OH! Total cost of tiny tree was $8..decorations from dollar store $5 .. Results:: A very happy and content kitty!!❤

I gave up on having a tree a while ago!!! About 10 years ago I did an awesome 9 1/2 foot tree, it was flocked white with 800 beautiful blue lights!! I went all out this time as I had seen several pictures in different magazines giving me ideas and inspiration!! I went out and bought many different decorations to put on it, including beautiful glass bird ornaments with long feathered tails, and a whole lot of feather boas for garland!!! ( Looking back, I don't know what the hell I was thinking!!!! ) But is was the most gorgeous Christmas Tree I have ever decorated!!! Later in the day I had to out to run a couple errands and even told my son to keep an eye on the cats and the tree, although they didn't seem too interested in it so far!! Well, upon my return, my 9 1/2 foot beautifully decorated tree was completely down, with it's ornaments off, some broken, and feathers all throughout the house!!!! The cats had feathers stuck to their noses!! I didn't know weather to laugh or cry!!! So much for my son keeping an eye on everything!! But well, he was a teenager at the time, need I say more?? Anyway, that's the last tree I've ever put up!! Didn't even have time to take a picture of it! I sure wish I could have watched this video back then!! I would have certainly have payed attention to the "secure the tree" part!!! LOL. Thanks for this great info, even though it was a bit too late for me! 😸🎄

Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened to your beautiful tree! 😿 Talk about a nightmare! But hey, at least you can look back on it and laugh now, right? Crazy stories make the best stories, haha. If you're ever brave enough to try again I hope this list is helpful enough to keep your tree and your cats safe. ❤

My favourite decoration is tinsel and I was very sad that I couldn't use it anymore. Until one day, I found something called Victorian tinsel! It's a thin strip of twisted metal hooked at the top like a candy cane. Because it's metal, kitty can't eat it! And bonus, so much easier to clean up after the holidays! Oh wait, another bonus : it's reusable! 😄

Excellent tips!!! For me, I have an easy way to cat proof my Christmas tree. I bought one of those corner curio cabinets, took out the shelves and bought one of those skinny Christmas trees and put inside the curio cabinet. You can run the cord for the lights up through the top where the light for the curio cabinet runs. I also use a rectangle shaped curio cabinet to set up my Christmas Village. I use all five shelves in the curio cabinet and make a different looking village for each shelf. Merry Christmas!!🎄🎉🎁

I put citrus peels on the edge of a planter that had string light on it and she won’t go near it, but I’d love the idea of having it in the plastic bubbles. I don’t know how long they would last but I think I’m gonna try doing that that sounds like a good idea to not have freestanding citrus pills hanging on your tree! I have an unexpected kitty who is now 14 weeks, but she was found at 3 1/2 weeks in the middle of the highway! I was just gonna foster her, but you can see how that went! But she’s into everything! But she doesn’t like the citrus pills. Hopefully they don’t become acclimated to it! The foil didn’t work the two sided tape doesn’t work………

Did the upside-down tree thing last year to avoid the problems, especially with a new kitten in the house. Thought it would look cool given the pics I've seen online of people who've done it. I will say it did look good considering it was my first (and last) attempt at it, but the work wasn't worth it. Side note, make sure your artificial tree has an actual locking mechanism for each segment instead of friction/gravity if you're doing this! Of everything that was the biggest nightmare we dealt with.

I just made my own cat alarm for the tree that scares the cats when they go within an inch of it, that's set to turn on at night before I go to bed and turns off just before I get up, and it sends me alerts to my phone if it goes off so I know when they tried messin with the tree. LOL I tried the spray recently, which I would have to use right before bed, because it would stink chemically so bad that you couldn't be around it, and because it doesn't last for very long either. We used up a can of it in about 5 nights, and didn't really want to get it on the wrapped presents and stuff around there either. Reading the spray can, from what I gathered, it's supposed to make the area wet/damp which is probably why it's chemical smelling, so it doesn't cause mold, but also wouldn't taste good to the cats, and I guess the smell would maybe keep them away??? It wasn't very clear on the can as to what it was actually doing to help, but it seemed to work while we slept, but we also had no way to know if or how well, and there were a couple of the fake tree needles laying around still... Our cats ignored the foil and the citrus sprays after about 30 mins, so those were all pretty useless for our 2 stubborn troublemakers... So far this motion detecting alarm is perfect, and also works perfect for keeping them off the kitchen table and counters as well. The other benefit of it is, our cats know how to get our attention, so they purposely do things that piss us off because we keep yelling at them not to do them, so this thing has nothing to do with us interacting with them, so they don't usually do it over and over like little brats just for attention because they really don't like the noise that scared them! I really should make a vid for different ways of making these things, because it drove me nuts for so long trying to find something available like this, and we just stopped putting a tree up for a couple years... But the kitchen table and counters was what forced me to come up with something because they knew they would be in trouble if we saw them do it, and as soon as we went to bed they were up there knocking stuff off and chewing on things. So at first I made a wireless camera setup to be able to look and see which one of them was doing it, cuz of course as soon as they head me open the bedroom door they would take off and would both hide. LOL Anyway, now it's all their fault if they go where they shouldn't, and they don't associate us with the noise that happens when they do the same things they shouldn't do over a couple times, and they learn really quickly that way not to do it again! With the table and counters, they did it a couple times the first night but hours apart, then the next night they did it once, and then no more for awhile, then once every couple months now maybe... So if you get as annoyed as I do about these situations, it might be an idea to look at rigging up something like that for yourself as well.

Orange peel doesn’t work with my cat, Tiger. I cut the peel into candy cane shapes and hung on the lower branches. The result? He pulls them off the tree and plays with them. Foil didn't work either! I finally I put 18 gallon open totes around the tree. I filled the totes with miscellaneous items and the items are of various heights and are put in unevenly and shift when he tries to put his weight on them.

I was given a power supplement for my cats food that she HATED. She ran away as soon as she got a whiff of it and would not eat any food that was near it. I was going to throw it away but never did. Since it's obviously safe, I'll sprinkle some under the tree and on the branches. I already know it's going to work. 😁 I'll have to see if my new kitten hates the smell, too and update my post.

Yes! Tip #11.....don't put it up and go to my parents and in-laws for Christmas! All of my females were fine as long as I kept the balls off of the bottom branches but our baby boy just isn't having it. He told me to go shove the zip ties and anchoring only makes it more fun to climb. He also thinks tinsel makes his poop more festive and loves the look on my face when scooping it out of the box so he can immediately sully it with some more. Ahh, the things we do for love...... 💖🐱👤💖

To call any of them to me all I have to do is wad up a piece of paper into a ball, the noise calls them from ANY point in the house right away!!!! Then, keeps them busy playing with it for the next hour, MINIMUM!!!! One of mine will play fetch just like a dog and keep dropping it at my feet for an hour or more!!! Cats are very much INDIVIDUAL creatures and anyone who thinks they can make an assumption that all cats don't like something......obviously hasn't spent ANY time with an actual cat!!!! The only assumption I feel ok making when it comes to cats, ALL CATS!!!!, is that they will NEVER cease to surprise you.......DAILY!!!!!
