When I got married in 1981 my Sister gave us a brown tabby kitten we named Chauncey Arthur. Our first Christmas we got a live tree and decorated it with lights,silver garland and mostly red silk balls. The tree looked beautiful and Chauncey didn't seemed very interested for a 5 month old. Off to work on Monday there was a holiday party at my office so we got out little late. After climbing the stairs, unlocking the door and hitting the light switch I was welcomed with a shock. Our tree was laying on its side,water under my feet and a pile of garland,lights and pulled apart silk Christmas balls. Inside it all sat a very confused and scared kitten! He looked so pitiful I couldn't get mad. After that year we got an artificial tree,different ornaments and hung everything up high,didn't stop him from taking a few down. I've had other cats since him but none so mischievous! Merry Christmas everyone! 😻❤❤
@incredibleanimal94063 күн бұрын
What a story! 😹 Chauncey Arthur really embraced his inner Christmas chaos that year! It’s impossible to stay mad at a kitten, especially one looking so pitiful and adorable amidst the "tree disaster zone." Sounds like he made that first Christmas unforgettable! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas filled with joy and (hopefully) no more toppled trees!

Several years back, we opted to put up a cat friendly xmas tree with no breakable ornaments that were non-toxic and with materials that wouldn't obstruct their GI tract. Essentially, our tree decorations are cat toys & lights. It actually looks great and is loads of fun for our fur babes. 😊

Cats love beautiful things, they smell the flowers, they watch the snow fall, and a Christmas tree is beautiful to them. The sparkling baubles, the heat from the lights, and a safe place for them to sleep. Who doesn't love their cats when they help with putting the decorations up, and when they help with the tree? Their eyes when they paw a bauble, the wonderment of it all. Once a year they see all this beauty, and for once a year they can be who they want to be. A cat at Christmas is like a kitten playing for the first time. Just sit and watch them and enjoy them being them and doing what they all do.
@incredibleanimal9406Күн бұрын
Beautifully said! 😻 Cats truly bring their own magic to Christmas-finding joy and wonder in the simplest things. Watching them marvel at the tree and ‘help’ with decorations reminds us to slow down and appreciate the little moments.

One of our cats named Sammie would climb our poor little artificial tree and ride it down when it would fall. I finally got wise and would anchor it to the wall in the corner of the room. It never fell again but she would knock all the ornaments off and chase them across the floor. She did this every year for as long as she lived. We always remember her when we put the tree up and tell our new cats about the adventures of Sammie.
@incredibleanimal9406Күн бұрын
Sammie sounds like she was full of holiday spirit and mischief! 😹 Anchoring the tree was definitely a smart move, but it’s clear she still found her fun. It’s so sweet that her memory lives on every Christmas-sharing her adventures with the new cats must make the holidays even more special.

I had a Ruddy Abyssinian who knocked over our tree. We put a large eye hook in the ceiling, and just attached the tree to it with some heavy duty cord. You could also use wire. We never had the problem again.
@incredibleanimal9406Күн бұрын
Smart solution! Cats may be determined, but a well-secured tree keeps everyone (and the ornaments) safe. Sounds like your Abyssinian gave you a memorable holiday and a DIY upgrade!

Two words: Tinfoil skirt. In all seriousness though if you place aluminum foil/tinfoil around the base of the tree and make it slightly crinkled cats absolutely hate the texture on their delicate paw pads and toe beans. My youngest, Mai or MaiMai when she’s being cute or good, is 3 now absolutely loves trying to get into the tree or pull off ornaments or knock the tree over. We did this last year and she avoided it like it was pure evil😂. My late momma cat, her mate(also passed) and her kittens(passed on as well) would all get into the tree. Somewhere I still have digital copies of the photos and it was like a cute little family portrait scene🥲. We immediately switched to plastic ornaments afterwards due to multiple ornaments and family heirloom ornaments getting broken due to the shenanigans😓. That however was 13 years ago. My mom suddenly thought of it because you can use aluminum foil/tinfoil to discourage them from getting onto tabletops, countertops or the stove and she thought, “why not?” It worked so we’ve told other cat people that and repeating it this year too😁 Edit: Also forgot with dogs did not matter male or female they would use the tree every single time like it was a real outdoor tree😅😮💨. We switched to tabletop sized 3’ and 4’ trees to keep things sanitary and it’s a lot easier to assemble and decorate for us
@incredibleanimal9406Күн бұрын
What a fantastic tip-tinfoil to the rescue! 😹 Your mom’s ingenuity with the aluminum foil sounds like a lifesaver for holiday decor. Cats vs. Christmas trees is always an epic showdown, and it’s amazing how such a simple trick can keep the peace. MaiMai sounds like a handful of holiday mischief, but it’s clear she keeps life entertaining! And those photos of the whole cat family in the tree-what a precious memory to cherish. Switching to plastic ornaments and smaller trees for the dogs is also a genius move! It’s all about finding what works for our furry friends while keeping the holidays fun and manageable. Thanks for sharing these clever and heartwarming ideas!
@cheshirekitsune9358Күн бұрын
@ MaiMai is definitely a handful. She actually had her first adventure outside yesterday after I went to the grocery store with my father. The door didn’t latch completely and its partially because the seal of the door is deteriorating even though the door is only 3 1/2 years old. It was almost 2 hours of frantic searching, calling neighbors and making new connections in different sections of the neighborhoods surrounding ours, along with contacting the local animal shelter and the microchip company so if someone found her before I did I’d find out. One neighbor helped drive me around because I can’t drive I have Stargardts Disease(genetic blindness like macular degeneration but earlier onset) so I can’t see all that far in front of me and driving isn’t safe. I was heartbroken and drained after having tragedy in the form of loss strike earlier in the month and having this happen on top of it was overwhelming. I checked one last time around the house and found her curled up shivering and petrified because she’s never been outside other than a few times on harness and leash or in her cat carrier to go to the vet. I had to bathe her, flea drop and deworm her and flea drop and deworm my other cat BeeBee for safety’s sake. I’m going to call my vet Monday to see if she should be brought in for a check up to be safe, she’s completely up to date on all her vaccines and spayed but you can never be too careful. And yes I dearly loved them all. Marbles(the momma) Buddy(the dad) Eclipse and Hero(the kittens). Every year they’d get in the tree and it was so cute I loved it even though it made my mother very upset but even she thought it was precious. I absolutely loved the way their eyes seemed to sparkle and glow in the Christmas lights of the tree like it was pure joy and wonder it made having the big tree up all the more special. I miss them fiercely but I’m glad for all the time I had with them wishing I had more time with some of them than what we ended up having. My favorite one was my late Moki who is my picture. She was born completely deaf and was mostly blind and I helped raise her from 4 weeks on. She had such an amazing personality and was full of love and life and mischief. She loved everyone and every animal she ever met. She loved all the cats and dogs and hamsters I had while she grew up. She would cuddle and groom everyone animal and human. We occasionally had mice end up in the house and she’d occasionally be found cuddling and grooming them which freaked us out but she never tried to catch or kill them. BeeBee on the other hand tried her best to teach her to hunt and she just never got it. Bless her soul. She would knock the tree over so many times trying to jump up in the tree like Marbles would but she never had that typical feline grace that most do. I miss all of those we’ve lost fiercely and deeply but I would go through all of it thousands of times just to have more time with them all. I hope the aluminum foil/tinfoil trick works and if not maybe see about some of the Jackson Galaxy videos I’m sure he might have better tips and tricks just in case for the holiday season. I hope you have a happy thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and your furry children too

If you have a cat use an artificial tree as real trees are toxic to cats. If they drink the water from a real tree it's toxic as well , same with tinsel . My cat lived in the tree last year , i've bought a slim one this year in the hopes she can't climb it !
@incredibleanimal9406Күн бұрын
Great advice! 🎄🐾 Real trees and tinsel can definitely be risky for our furry friends. A slim tree sounds like a clever solution-though knowing cats, they’ll probably find a way to ‘supervise’ it anyway! 😹 Good luck, and may your holidays be merry and mishap-free!
