Hi Pascal. No worries mate, have you watched my other video if not you may find that helpful to. Move carefully feeling the worms body below its head, it will arch and pull down and then it will settle down. Then you can feel them kind of relax and tense when they relax you squeeze slowly but surly, not suddenly. You may catch one first outing but also you may not. Don't be put off, keep trying. They can be tricky little buggers. when you succeed you will be one happy fisherman.

Finally gave it a go today. They were everywhere, but couldn't catch one to save my life. I just seem to spook them so easily. It was a warm day, and annoyingly busy metro beach so spectators galore. They all kept asking what I'm doing, I said "I don't know" haha. Think I'll head south to practice in peace. Thanks for this series!

Yes keep trying and yep when worming you become beach entertainment not good for trying to learn, when you start getting the hang of it you will be more relaxed with the sightseers. Sometimes the worms can be very touchy and other times they are so hungry. Down south will be quieter all the best and I think my number 3 worm video is my best one. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Absolutely hands down the best worming video I’ve seen. The depth of knowledge that only comes from experience. I’ll have a couple of weeks in the new year around Port Fairy and Warrnambool over in Victoria. Going to give it a go for the first time. The sand varies a bit from coarse grained to very fine,does that have any bearing on where the worms are? Mostly what I’ve seen seems to be on the finer grain sand.
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 Ай бұрын
Hello Peter thank you for your comment very much appreciated. Well I had a google and as you all ready know there are worms at the beaches you have mentioned, my advise would be to start having a go in the finer grained sand like you mentioned you will find the worms in the coarser sand but as I have experienced they can be very hard to pull out and can be very frustrating when you break them all the time. Can I recommend also watching my number 3 worming video for a few more tips. Cheers Peter and all the best mate. David.

G'day Kaye, thanks mate. Sorry to say I don't think these worms can be found around Cowell I have never been there so maybe have a look, it might be worth taking a bait pump for bass yabbies or other marine worms. Beach worms only seem to be on beaches between west beach and Normanville beach, kids do love it, but they can be very tricky to catch. Have a good holiday. Dave thanks great help. Questions: You said to wait for the worm to grab the small bait and arch and grab. Then "grab their head and wait for them to relax and squeeze and pull." Did I misunderstand or did you mean wait until they relax (visually) and are biting down and then grab their head? It seems they would tense and not relax if you were holding their head. Question 2: You seem to say "grab their head" and wait for them to relax, but do you mean grab them just below the head which seems like you would have a it more leverage? Question 3: Any general areas along Adelaide metro beaches you have had success as I rarely spot any worms. Thanks again and hope you have the time to reply. Skip
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Skip at 11:50 I show where I squeeze the worm bellow the head, I should have made that more clear at the beginning. When your fingers are bellow the worms head you gently feel its body with no sudden movements, with very slight finger pleasure you can feel the worm relaxing and tensing, timing is crucial at this point when you feel the worm relax you squeeze and pull him out. With the hand bait you offer that to the worm when his heads out of the sand or you can coach him out with it, once he has hold of your hand bait you get your fingers into position and let them slowly sink into place bellow the head, the worm will arch and pull down a couple of times then start to feed. I do hope this is helpful, also can I recommend watching my latest worm video part 3 its a bit more clear. Cheers David........Try Tennyson Beach, West Beach and a little more south O'sullivans Beach. My part 2 worming may be useful too. Low Tide

Great video Dave. Can you worm in some surf or does it need to be calm? And can you worm year round? I would like to give it a go but unsure where in Adelaide to try, any tips where, preferably where it’s quiet, don’t want people having a laugh. Keep the videos coming
@davidsheldonfishing9726

Hi Kon. Thank you! yes you can worms in surf, It can be trickier when learning to catch them between the surges of water coming up the beach. Yes you can catch them all year round. You can find worms on West beach and Tennyson beach. The quieter beaches to learn on would be Sellicks beach, Moana beach, Port Willunga beach, and the northern end of Maslins beach. and when you get into it and are more familiar you could have a drive down and have a look at Normanville beach where I am in this video. Can I recommend you watching my last worming Video part 3 you may find it helpful. ALL the best David.

David, thanks for detailed explanation. A few questions: 1) I didn't hear or missed the best timing with the tides. 2) At the beginning you said wait until the worm grabs the stocking and when the worm relaxes pull., but during the catching period you didn't seem to wait for the worm to take the stocking. I thought the worm was getting partially stuck (teeth) in the mesh. 3) How does the worm "relax" with you holding him and does the relaxing response occur above or below your holding spot? 4) How do you avoid a pullback response (which is my problem) when you are trying to put your fingers below the sand before grabbing. Is it just speed (I've tried too) or should I be avoiding shading the worm from the sun? Thanks For your time Skip - Oakbank
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, the best tide for worming is 2 hours before low tide also the incoming tide until you have trouble finding them, the best tides are around the full moon also the new moon. The worm has to have hold of the bait before you start trying to catch it, the worms teeth do get caught in the mesh a bit but I'm not relying on that to catch the worm when the worm has your bait you must then very carefully place your fingers each side of its head as close as possible but don't touch its head or you will scare it off, when your fingers are in position let the movement of the worm help you to sink your fingers below its head also some water movement can help this happen, when your fingers are below its head nice and steadily close your fingers so you can feel its body the worm will usually start to arc up and pull down to try and pull its dinner under the sand to feed but it can't so it settles down to feed it is now if you are gently feeling its body you can feel it tensing and relaxing ( softening) when it softens (relaxes) you squeeze firmly and you have got him hopefully and pull him out, all of this can happen quick it all depends on the worm, shading the worm doesn't bother them. Sometimes I squeeze fast but usually nice and steady some people have different techniques but with lots of practice and crazy moments and frustration you will get one eventually and wonder what all the fuss was about. Can I recommend you watch my third worming video it also might help. All the best with worming they are worth the stress.....Cheers David

Hi thank you, you can find these worms on a few Adelaide metro beaches I know they are on west beach and a few others but not all of them I haven't done any worming down that way but where you can find ribbon weed washed up along the wave line on a beach is worth a look. I have done all my worming on O'sullivans beach, Christies Beach but Port Noarlunga and South Port beaches are out of bounds now no worming allowed but they can be caught at Moana, Maslins, Pt Wilunga, Aldinga, Silver sands, and Normanville, Carrickalinga beach and a couple of beaches on kangaroo island. As far as I know there are no Bungam worms over on the York Peninsular you could have look though. You can catch these worms all year round but it is best in the summer months because your hands don't get cold. P.S watch my number 3 worming video it is informative. All the best David

Hi dingydate, thank you and good to hear about the worms, I use to keep them other ways but found the bag the best, to be honest I've never tried cured worms years ago I use to brine them in flossy salt but only for selling them for a bit of extra money now we need a licence to sell them, but I always used alive or straight frozen, these days professional wormers use methylated spirit and I hear it is very good. Thanks for your comment and watching, CHEERS to you to matey. Bet its nice at Fraser Island.

I buy carp to feed my maggots so I just grab one of them, but I do also think carp is the best for worms because it lasts for at least a couple of worm trips. I would catch my own if I had too. All other fish is fine but as the blood and smell gets less its harder to tempt the worms up. Hope that helps cheers David.

Cheers Dave. I was just down at North Haven beach (very low tide) and there were thousands of worms sticking their heads out of their holes; some were excreting sand creating sand "sausage" piles. Are these the same sort of worms?

Hi Ron, that is interesting the worms in this video do stick there heads up when the shoreline waves or water recides with movement to feed. The worms you are describing it is hard for me to say but I think they may be squirt worms they excrete sand from there holes which resembles tooth paste or sausage piles but I have never seen them sticking there heads out that sounds cool to see, those worms can be sucked out with a bait pump or dug with a garden fork excellent bait, also I think you have probably found yourself a great whiting fishing spot Ron so give it a go and fish the incoming tide where you have been collecting the worms. Thanks for commenting Ron that is interesting mate.

Great video David. Never knew they ‘relaxed’.. or they were on beaches other than surf beaches... I’ve always got them as they arch... but I miss quite a lot! Gday Neil. Great comment. Catching worms when they arch is skilled and takes absolute timing. I've seen people who have mastered that technique - "Professional Wormers" and they pull out worms like they are picking up pebbles. I'm a good amateur wormer who still has trouble from time to time and keep missing them. Try my way and see how you go, when you work it out you will catch plenty. Port Lincoln and Coffin Bay are beautiful places with excellent fishing. Not sure if they get beach worms over there though. I breed and supply maggots around the country including Port Lincoln Fishing and Camping. Give them a call on 08 86830021 and they may be able to help you out. Thanks mate all the best. I'm putting up another worming video soon. Stay tuned.

Browns beach salmon, tommies, mullet, and Buttlers beach you may have to pay to enter not much money, salmon ,mullet. also the Dust hole, salmon mulloway, to name a few I hope that helps you a bit Darren. Port Rickaby is very nice off the easy to fish of rock ledge its safe and great gar fishing.

G'day mate. Yes they sure are big, around 5 worms is a reasonable amount for a 2-3 hours fishing but for around 4-6 hours up to 10 is a good amount to have. Its Amazing how many you can use sometimes because every fish from small to large will eat them. I catch a good amount in a worming session so I can freeze some in packets of 10 worms for future fishing sessions because I can't go worming to often due to being busy with work, frozen worms are very good too. The fish in the bag is a carp that is used to attract the worms they smell it and poke there heads out of the sand so I can see them and catch them. They are expensive to buy and cheap but tricky to catch. thank you for you message mate and tight lines.

Also Moana, Sellicks and Aldinga beach the sand is much firmer on them beaches and the worms a bit smaller but you can drive on there. Port willunga can be good too with some nice worms. @@davidsheldonfishing9726 Yep, I've watched all your vids. Captivating stuff!! I hope you don't mind me asking more questions but here I go anyway.. The worms always go for an arch and then yank down. I find they don't always go a second arch and instead they keep gripping onto the bait but seem to have their body tight and vertical, feeling like they're trying to pull the bait down. Do you see it as a missed opportunity if they don't arch up again? They seem far more sensitive at this point and getting fingers down their body below the head rarely works for me in this instance. How do you approach these situations?
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 4 жыл бұрын
@@chuckyfirth yes no what you mean, they can be hard to catch when they do that and most times it can be a lost cause and time to move on to another worm that might be a bit keener. When they do that you could try to slowly push your hand bait into its face to give it a bit of slack this could encourage it to do another arch and settle down and have a feed, or you could try the push down technique which I mention on my beach worming part 2 this way works a treat sometimes when they are acting funny. Both ways you have to have your fingers in the right position though. hope that helps a bit Bryan. they are a good challenge arnt they.

Where I have trouble , is understanding the feeling of the worm relaxing, feeling with your fingers. If you touch them won’t they go down. Or are you just close enough to feel them thru the sand without touching them, or are you using sight to know they are relaxing ? I have tried this a lot in the past with no success. (Always felt there was something they weren’t telling me, there had to be), it was so easy for them, pro beach wormers. My pro mates record was 35 worms from a single wave washing out, till next one washed right up again. Huh, what the !

Hi Mick, sorry I did have a little giggle when I read your message they can be tricky little buggers. yes I do actually feel the worms body but not until my fingers are below its white head I was a bit clearer about that on my second and third worming video but you have to be very careful and gentle when touching them. when the worm arches up and pulls down he generally dose that a couple of times then it will settle down (sometimes after the first arch) and start to try and feed its this time with very slight pressure you can feel its body like tense and go soft (relax) it is only a brief moment off and on like pulsing as its biting or chewing or swallowing I think, thats when you squeeze firmly(the soft or relax moment) but not to suddenly if that makes any sense and pull him out, sometimes they are very hungry and much easier to catch sometimes very cautious it can vary a lot, when they just have hold of your hand bait and not doing much try the push down technique you do that by slowly increase your finger pressure on the sand when in position and end up pushing down hard and squeeze and pull him out I also do that a lot and it works a treat. If you haven't watched my second and third worming video you may find them interesting I do go on a bit but if you can put up with me raving on it might help a bit more. My mate from years ago I drove him crazy because he couldn't catch them for ages but the penny dropped one day and later on he became a pro wormer I might know your mate I think I knew all of the pro wormers, they are good aren't they Practice makes perfect. some people grab them on the arch try it all you will win if you keep trying. Without touching its head slide your fingers down very very close to its head without touching it don't have your fingers spread to far apart. the water and the movement of the worm will help your fingers work in below the head you do that then work in to feel its body and away you go. OK I will sign off now before I wright a book lol. all the best Mick.

G'day Raditan. They are big worms, they can grow unto 6ft long. They do look alien. Cool, thanks for watching. Take a look at my other worming videos if you like. Cheers David.
