In this video I will show how to catch one of the most sought after exotic species of fish that live in Florida. Midas cichlids (Amphilophus citrinellus) can be found throughout the canals and lakes of Miami-Dade County. These beautiful fish usually weigh less than 1 pound and any Midas cichlid over 2 pounds is a big one. I found that bread is the best bait to use to catch these fish. You can also catch them on lures such as jigs, lipless crankbaits, jerkbaits, and other lures. Midas cichlids are native to Central American countries such as Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

SK's CRAPPIE Catchn Adventures Thank you for watching! They give a good fight for their size and they are one of the most unique freshwater exotic fish that live in South Florida. I am thinking of making more videos showing how to catch other exotic species. These fish are coexisting well with the native fish and I often catch big bluegills in the same areas.

The solid bright all orange one was gorgeous. I would like to have that one in one of my tanks. I have only kept African but seeing this makes me want to get a central American as well.

@johnsnow674 Thank you for watching! I agree, Midas cichlids are gorgeous fish. I have seen several videos of Midas cichlids in aquariums with other cichlids, it's definitely worth raising them if you have a large aquarium. Earlier this year I posted an underwater video of Midas cichlids that I hope you enjoy watching. Thinking of posting more underwater cichlid videos.

What time of day did you catch these Midas Cichlids? I have caught a few between 6-8 pm. All other times I have gone either in the morning or mid-day they don't show any interest in my bait. Using Publix brand white bread.

Carlos Garcia Thank you for watching! I have caught Midas cichlids from sunrise to sunset. Sometimes they are picky in one location so you have to fish another location until you find the Midas cichlids that are actively feeding.

It was very fun catching these Midas cichlids and I highly recommend you fish for them when you visit South Florida. I prefer using brown bread since it is the bread I like to eat. White bread will also work.

@@Grouperhunter I find the fish prefer white. My schedule for fishing has got pushed back. What do you think is better for florida in the months of november to february? You definitely should do more specialized videos. Like you, I like just the fishing and catching fish but people say there should be more talking in the videos if you want a bigger audience. I have been trying to do that more but I need work. I notice there are lots of people that don't catch many fish but have lots of subs and views.

Peeling Line Most people use white bread and it works very well for them. What species would you like to catch? November to February are great months to fish for big largemouth bass and fishing in the Everglades. I do not talk much in my videos and will try to talk a little more. I enjoy watching your videos since you are true to yourself and think you should continue being that way. Hopefully I can continue posting specialized videos like this one about Midas cichlids. I will still post videos of my other hobbies since I see my KZbin page as a vlog that I share with my family, friends, and anyone that wants to see my videos.

@@Grouperhunter That's cool. The main thing I have to catch in florida is a florida gar. But there are so many unique species there I would be happy with any: peacocks, cichlids, plocostomus. You've seen my videos. If it swims I want to catch it. 😂
@Grouperhunter
@Grouperhunter 3 жыл бұрын
Peeling Line You should be able to catch several Florida gar in the Everglades. Easiest way to catch them is with live bait under a bobber. They will also hit cutbait. Jerkbaits, topwaters, and soft plastics are my favorite lures for Florida gar. Most species of cichlids can be caught on bread or live worms. Peacock bass like live bait, jerkbaits, crankbaits, topwaters, and jigs. Easiest way to catch a Plecostomus is with your hands since they like to be close to the shore, they will also eat live worms and sometimes lures. I think you will love the variety South Florida has to offer and you should have a great time.
