How to Catch BIG Striped Bass Fishing in the Southern California Surf

That is so awesome! Congrats. I have yet to catch a striper from the surf. I used to surf fish alot before I had kids mostly in Malibu. My pb halibut and wsb were about 32”s. I would suggest using a 1oz Kroc over the 3/4”. You get better casting range and swims just as well. Surf fishing on light tackle has to be the most exiting.

That Striper gave you a good fight! I didn't know stripers surf were that far south. I am a few mile north of Monterey(Moss Landing), I'm new to surf striper fishing but a long time angler.

What rod and reel do you use?

Phenix trifecta pro series 9ft single piece I have 1 that is 8-17 lb and another that is 10-30lb, I use the lighter rod the most. And for the reel I use a diawa BG 3500. Highly recommend both

@@Bigtoads I love Phoenix rods but that trifecta seems like the lighter 8-17 looks too flimsy if you have seaweed hooked on it. I was thinking about the black diamond surf rod. Man I’m a trout fisherman but I have some lucky craft lures that I don’t use and I’m thinking about getting a setup for surf fishing
