Another great video and lesson. Been trying to trap for the past three years now. This year I finally think I figured it out. I didn’t get your email. I’ll go check! As far as a new pup, mine listen pretty good before I take them, and I just keep an eye on them, and if they go near the trap set I just scold them. If they do it again I let them…once they’re caught in the trap I scold them, and release them. They seem to remember, and associate the smell of the bait/ lure/urine as something they’re not interested in. The dog in this video hasn’t been trapped yet. He listens very good. My other dogs only got trapped one time each, and they just kind of hang back when we’re at a set. As far as snares…. That’s another story, they just sit down and wine until I come let them out. The cable is barely tight, and it’s just a inconvenience.

Use snares versus trap line i was taught to always make sure if it is blown out to continue to use it every time and never let the catch cereal, be the main factor in moving the traps. Now if the traps were in an area where people were causing the problem then yes, relocate the trapline! The other justification for relocating is if you want to just harvest a certain amount of animals due to population To reduce the number of issues with people only using snares because people love to steal the traps, which can lead to an expense concern where snares can be made out of anything in the environment. If this situation regarding farmer's land concerns then I can see the reason for the relocation of the traps to many different locations to reduce the landscape concerns making sure that there is no property damage then we must relocate to prevent so that the farmer wants you to come back to work and reduce his own nutrients animal control. To make sure that you continue to have a contract with the land owners. However, what traps do you use to go after the wild boar if in your area of traping have you ever had to go after them, yet? I hear that the Canadian version of The Wild Boar is coming South to the northern part of America so we are going to be faced with the same issue as the Southern United States is dealing with are you ready for this situation that is endable that the whole nation is going to deal with this, problem ( The Wild Boar) that these inactive animals occurring in our own country. Sincerely! R.S.V.

Just about every trap on the market right now is good. I use the Duke #2. I catch a lot of coyotes, and they take a beating, and continue to work year after year. The price is about as economical as I can find. It’s my favorite hands down. Nothing wrong with other traps, but I do recommend using all the same trap if you can. It helps when you are making your set. It keeps everything consistent. I could go on for days about this topic. Great Question!

Really enjoyed the series! On your dispatch do you rap them on the nose first, then strike them on the jugular. I used to knock um down like a fox by rapping their nose with my trowel then striking the throat but usually had to kneel on their chest to finish the job. Now I shoot them in the chest with a 22 short but that creates a messy skinning job.
@jeromycooley-outwestadvent5790
@jeromycooley-outwestadvent5790 2 жыл бұрын
I do exactly that… a rod the nose, and go for the throat. It works about 75-80% of the time…. I used to shoot mine with a .22 also. My best method was my Eastwing ax, I use the poll of the ax on the top of the head. One hit and that’s all it took. It was fast, easy, and clean when skinning them. I lost my dang ax on the trapline earlier this season, and it hasn’t turned up yet. Thanks for watching, and commenting!

Oh wow! Thank you. I use “mixing salt”. It’s made for livestock, and I buy it in 50lb bags for around $10 per bag. Most feed stores carry it. It works great. I also use it for my tanning. As far as dispatch… I’ve tried everything known, and I usually use my Eastwing ax, and use the poll right between the ears. Kills them quick with no blood. I recently lost my ax, so lately I have been using a rebar trap stake to rap them on the bridge of the nose, and then break their windpipe. Thanks for watching, and interacting
